    Central Cabarrus

Central Cabarrus only loses one senior this year (Alyssa Arnold), Although she will surely be missed. She's had an awesome glove at first this year and a bat that got hotter as the season progressed.

With the rest of the starters returning and a new 3A County Conference to play in, the girls seem very excited about next year.:xyxthumbs::N1yeeaah: I'll predict now that there will be some awesome ball games played throughout Cabarrus County next year. The conference looks to be really equal talentwise for 2010.:gunsmilie:

Good luck to N. Vance next year. I didn't realize who coached NV until I was talking to Homerun.

Hopewell Lady Titans should be strong contenders in the new IMEC conference (schools from Iredell and Mecklenburg).

Returning from last years MECA 6 conference runner up team will be 5 All Conference players, including the MECA Conference Player of the Year (Kelly Braman) and Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year (Lindsey Russell).

The team finished the season winning 11 of its final 12, with the only loss coming in a 2 - 1 second round playoff loss @ N. Davidson. The Lady Titans only allowed 9 total runs in their final 12 games.

I expect the conference championship to be a three team race between Hopewell, North Meck, and Lake Norman.

    Not that many seniors?

Okay, I have to ask. After reading the posts in this thread, there are a lot of teams that are only losing 1 or 2 seniors or none at all. My DD's school only had 2 this year, 2 the year before that, and maybe 3 the year before that but they are always loaded with freshman, sophomores, and juniors. Why is that? Are girls just not playing in their senior season for some reason?

Now that's a question that makes you think! I wonder if it's because we don't put enough emphasis on instruction at the jv (freshman?) level. I could understand a one-year gap--maybe, but when it happens 2 or 3 years in a row something isn't right.

I don't believe it is just the seniors not coming back. Many girls are dropping out at various times. I have seen freshman, sophs, and juniors not come back which makes the senior class smaller all the time. Our school does have this problem, but it is mainly in girls basketball. We had 2 all-conference players that were seniors not play basketball this year and it has happened in the past. Now, these 2 had already committed to softball careers (college) and just didn't not love basketball enough to continue, but it did hurt the program. We had 2 travel ball freshmen not come out for the high school softball team because they wanted to run track instead...they figure the travel ball is enough for them softball wise. It is a struggle to keep your team strong when players that can make a differnce do not play, but that is a coach's burden and they must find ways to make the sport more interesting and fun. Softball is a very hard sport to play compared to most other sports.
