    1. If the 3B made a catch that he could get up and make an out at 1B, but chose to "pick off" the runner at 3rd, then the correct scoring would be an error on the 3B, and a FC recorded to the batter.

...OK, the 3B made a great play just to stop the ball from going through the infield, if so, the scoring would be a basehit period, and a big pat on the back to the 3B for saving the run.

    Slightly different note

An umpiring question plus a scoring question. Bases loaded - a fly ball hit to the center fielder. Throw goes to the plate as runner was tagging at third but did not attempt to advance. The ball becomes lodged between the catcher's chest protector and his body. Do all runners advance 1 base? Do you score that a SAC, E2, or what? I could only find the situation addressed in the NFHS rulebook when the ball was thrown by the pitcher from the pitching rubber. In that case - all runners advance one base if the ball becomes lodged. I could find nothing about a throw that came to the catcher from any other player. Thanks

    Umpiring: Not for me either!

I umpired a tee-ball game a few years back & it was tough. Every play was close at 1st base. The parents were vicious also.

As per rule book under awarding bases chart

Runners advance two bases on a thrown ball lodging in a players uniform. As for scoring record the batted out and move runners up on catcher's interference.
