There will be a public hearing, usually in March, at the school board meeting when the public is allowed to speak to the board. People need to speak out. It's great to share ideas here, but if we went to accomplish anything, we need to speak at the public hearing AND contact school board members. Their contact information can be found on the CMS website.... www.cms.k12.nc.us (It's probably printed on the menu you get each month too.)

I've spoken at the budget hearing every year for the past five years. You get three minutes, and you have to call to sign up, again check the website for the number, or you can sign up when you get there. The sooner you get on the list, the earlier you speak. Be prepared...make notes on what you will say...take folks with you to stand when you speak.

In addition to saying don't cut sports, make concrete suggestions about what else they could eliminate and still be successful. They seem to pay more attention to folks who, in addition to making requests, offer viable solutions as well. (Do we really need a TV production company when we're talking about taking teachers out of the classroom? etc.)

how much funding do they get

Not sure how much funding you receive. In Wake County, you have salary supplements for coaches which is not much and then the AD at each school gets an average of $2500 per year to run all sports (covering equipment, officials, etc. The interesting part is that it is significantly less than $2500 for high schools. That is why booster clubs look for revenues. Tell people complaining at concession stand that we are not in competition with Circle K - we are out to raise money.

I know for a fact that Dr. Gorman reads and will occasionally reply to emails. Please go to the CMS website and leave your opinion and suggestion. It does matter. There has got to be a better way.

    Keeps kids off the street
    Teaches teamwork
    Develops loyalty to school
Connects the privilege of playing sports to grades/academic performance

    Sports in Meck County

We moved to S. Charlotte to get into the excellent schools here, which have been ok. We are now moving to Union County for the exact reason that the person from the South Charlotte Sports paper is trying to get across to all of us.

Union County sports seems to understand that the parents care about sports for their kids. We are willing to support the teams financially. I never remember this as an issue when I was in middle or high school but it is here in S. Charlotte.

I am so impressed with the Union County booster programs. I've spoken to two different presidents and they absolutley understand what it takes to run all these sports leagues. It's worth a move to get my kids in
programs that they will enjoy and not worry about money.

I applaud the S. Charlotte Sports Newspaper. It's innovative and promotes the right things for the kids.

    Tripp gets it

Tripp gets it when it comes to the kids. My family enjoy reading about all of the kids in his paper. His events that he has is all about kids. Hot Stove Awards, Battle of the border, camps etc. Tripp we appreciate all that you do but I have one suggestion for you: Include a where are they now section for past athletes that are playing in college and Charlotte players in the minors. I love to see kids have success when they graduate.

Thanks so much for the comments,,, I love putting smiles on the kids faces. We are growing, with good fans of the paper and more advertisers, we can really grow our coverage

If anyone has a player they want to update me on for next issue, email me at [email protected]
