    ALL-WNC TEAM

    FIRST TEAM

    PLAYER OF THE YEAR
    Cody Geyer
    North Buncombe
    Junior
    Third baseman/pitcher
    Geyer was the Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year after batting .488 with 43 RBIs, 13 home runs, six doubles. He struck out only four times. Geyer was also 8-1 as a pitcher with two saves, a 2.53 earned run average and 79 strikeouts.


    PITCHERS
    Adam Curtis
    Roberson
    Senior
    Curtis (8-2) was the Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and maintained a 1.92 earned-run average with 64 strikeouts. He also had two saves. Curtis has signed with Western Carolina University.

    Nathan Hyatt
    Brevard
    Senior
    Hyatt (8-1) was the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and maintained a 1.04 earned run average with 90 strikeouts. Hyatt was the winning pitcher in both victories over defending WAC champion West Henderson. His only loss came in a head-to-head battle with Clemson recruit Dale Innes (Enka). Hyatt has signed with Appalachian State. Hyatt batted .410 with 22 RBIs, 13 doubles and eight home runs.

    CATCHER

    Ben Walgenbach
    Hendersonville
    Junior
    Walgenbach was the Western Highlands Conference Player of the Year and hit .494 with eight home runs for the Bearcats. He also had 96 strikeouts in 70 innings as a pitcher.

    INFIELDERS

    William Head
    Asheville
    Senior
    Head was named to the Mountain Athletic Conference team after setting Western North Carolina records for single-season (46) and career stolen bases (100). He also batted .475 with 3 home runs, 12 doubles and 27 runs scored. Head has committed to Appalachian State.

    Daniel Hyatt
    West Henderson
    Senior
    Hyatt was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference team after hitting .440 with 22 RBIs and five doubles. His season was cut short by an ankle injury, but Hyatt also finished his career with a 20-0 pitching record. Hyatt has signed with Winthrop.

    Joel McKeithan
    Roberson
    Junior
    McKeithan was named to the All-Mountain Athletic Conference team after batting .431 with 22 RBIs, 10 doubles and six home runs, the most homers by any Rams’ hitter. He also drew a team-high 21 walks. McKeithan has committed to Vanderbilt.

    Cody Stubbs
    Tuscola
    Senior
    Stubbs was named to the All-Mountain Athletic Conference team after batting .439 with 39 RBIs and a WNC-best 16 home runs. He also banged out seven doubles, two triples and was walked 22 times. Stubbs has signed with Tennessee and was the 2008 MAC Player of the Year.

    OUTFIELDERS

    Junior
    Cox was named to the All-Mountain Athletic Conference team after batting .413 with 16 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Cox had a 21-game hitting streak during the season.

    Jake Hill
    Reynolds
    Senior
    Hill led the Rockets in three offensive categories - batting average (.432), RBIs (22) and doubles (seven). He also belted out two home runs for Reynolds, which captured its third straight Buncombe County championship on April 15. Hill’s RBI single brought home the eventual winning run in a 4-3 victory over Asheville High.

    Walker Rackley

    Senior
    Rackley was named to the All-Mountain Athletic Conference team after batting .358 with a team-high 29 RBIs for the MAC champion Rams. He also had 10 doubles and four home runs. Rackley has signed with Western Carolina University.

    COACH OF THE YEAR
    Caleb McConnell
    Tuscola
    In his first season, McConnell took his alma mater to its first 3-A Western Regional championship series appearance. Despite finishing third in the Mountain Athletic Conference, the Mountaineers made the deepest playoff run of any WNC baseball team this spring. Infielder/pitcher Cody Stubbs was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 29th round of the major league draft.
