    It's an Amazing Game...

It's hard to describe really. Maybe the 60-foot bases, maybe the fact that the pitcher's mound is only 40 (or 43) feet away from the batter. Maybe it's the noise that you hear from the dugout pitch after pitch. It's amazing that I played baseball through college, and when I entered the coaching ranks of softball, I never looked back.

Now, I have trouble watching an entire baseball game on TV, but if you tell me there is a TB tournament up the street, or even a pickup rec game for that matter, I am heading up there to watch, providing we're not already playing.

One of the best things about thsi board is that the people on it are truly passionate about the game. Maybe that is what makes it so special...

    The best thing about softball

I thank the Lord every day for this sport. It has helped me get closer to my DD. Name one other sport that has brought more parents and their teenage daughters closer together. Most parents would be amazed at how much one on one time I have with my DD.we practice together, watch Sport Center for highlights, pray, and discuss the days results. We, of course, travel to/from tournaments together, have a nice dinner, and catch a movie in a cool theater from time to time. I owe this sport so much.

I love the personalities (well, 99% of the players' personalities and over 50% of parents', coaches', officials' personalities).

Being a part of helping the kids work hard to be the best they can be and seeing them sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing and trying again and again is the most wonderful experience one can have.

There have been times when I've seen a kid full of doubt step in the batter's box and the next at bat step into the box a new kind of kid full of confidence. Those are the moments you live for.

There are so many players that I know that make this game so wonderful to be a part of. Players that I've never worked with, just watched play, and players that I have worked with, have taught me so much about what this game means.

My DD got me involved in the game and it's almost the best gift I've ever had.

i think the best thing about softball, is the rush you get when your playing your teams "rival". Its almost as if you along with the other eight girls are thinking the exact same thing.

and the feeling you get when you win a game like that, well its indescribable. :hurray:

OK folks, I'm not getting sappy here and the all "I love you man!" crap, but its true! How can any of us on TBR question the fact that SO many friends have been made by just playing a simple ballgame?
My DD lived 150 miles from her freshman yr roommate, (who Mama and I love as one ours, and she is) while they grew up playing against eachother. Thats cool. We've all made friends, parents to parents; parents to kids on other teams; players to players; coaches to coaches..........we all blessed.
You know, now that I think about this a little while longer, I can't help but remember a few times when a dispute would start here or an arguement would start there, but in the end, we all made friends!
Hell I hated when my own brother would kick my butt on the basketball court even though I was 2 years older. He'd win and I'd want to fight.
I figured it out about the time he hit 6'8"!
I'd give my right arm for him right now.
That analogy is how I feel about softball.

I think that over the years, learning how to take defeat with dignity and the good feeling when you win. Making so many new friends that are still your friends after being defeated in an intense game. Watching the young ladies grow and learn from playing the game of softball. Knowing that they will pick up tools on the softball field that they will use for the rest of their lives.

    good stuff

Seeing the girls "get it." Sometimes you explain something over and over and over and over and you wonder why am I doing this. Then they go play for someone else (not a parent) who explains the same thing and they "get it." WOW. How does that work?

I enjoy watching the girls grow. I wish they could stay about 10 years old forever. But to see the work pay off is rewarding.
