Try this link. Good article with some valid points. Brings to mind the old saying, "There's no I in team." Yeah, the point of a showcase team is to be seen, but once you get to college, you're still expected to be part of the TEAM.

It has been way too quiet this summer....2009 recruiting class completed....trying to find the 2010 & 2011 that have not already "committed". This "dating game" is sooooooooooo enjoyable.

I think I have about another year before the "dating game" returns to my house with a daughter and softball. Which also means that I no longer have a dog in the fight when it comes to the legion/showcase saga, though softball has it's own cans of worms... but it's still fun to poke the proverbial stick at it and see which side squalls the loudest!

    Interesting Article

The article is interesting and make some good points but there are more things to consider.
    1. My son played Jr. Legion after his 8th grade year. Great experience but it was not free. It was fairly expensive.
    2. There is more competition other than Legion vs Showcase. There are over 40 teams in the state playing Scholastic Summer Leagure. There is also Senior Babe Ruth.
    3. I was always under the impression that Sr. Legion was for high school players and that it helped them develop for their high school teams. I see more and more college players on these legion teams with high school players being left out.
    4. Showcase ball probably has more of a team first format then most people realize. We've been playing for a while and I see very few hot dogs with me first attitudes. I see a bunch of guys having fun trying to whip the other team's butt.
    5. There's room for all kinds of baseball in the summer. Just play where you can and for the right reasons.

Agreed! I play showcase ball, and I myself have layed down sacrifice bunts, or taken an inside pitch to right field to move a runner. If you come out to any venue and watch a close game, you'll see a lot of this kind of stuff at the showcase level.

And if you don't believe me, if you were a scout, wouldn't you want to see a kid that can perform do the little things? Because at this level, that's the difference.

    Actually..

DRat they are there to see 400 ft HRs and 90 mph fastballs.
Watch the Scouts and you will see them write down those things.. Oh yea sub 7 60's.

The coaches belive they can teach the rest..

The thing they can't measure is a players Heart.. and if he is a Winner on his own. That information comes from watching along time or from outsiders that know the player..

Hope everything works out for you but Go long or go home...
