Tommy Smith new Head Coach at UNC-Asheville

    Tommy Smith was named the head coach at UNC-Asheville this morning. He contacted incoming and returning players last night of the news. Congrats Coach Smith!

    Haven't been able to confirm but I heard:

    1) Aaron Rembert (current Mars Hill pitching coach) had been asked to be the pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at UNCA. Talked to one grad and to the dad of a player at Mars Hill and they felt he was a good find and had turned the Mars Hill pitching staff around. Haven't heard if he accepted.

    2) Also heard that Darren Holmes (13 years in the majors and I believe a couple of World Series rings) had agreed to be the volunteer (pitching) coach.

    Haven't heard any rumors on a hitting/position player coach.

    Also ran into Coach Smith this weekend at a HS baseball tourney in Asheville and he seemed to be enjoying his new role. He was out greeting everyone and shaking hands. It appears he will be more visible than his predecessor.
