Come on Jr Legion folks. :whoopass: Where are the scores? Question, hopefully not a dumb one. Was the Eastern Tournament part of this State tournament?

    Change in Eastern teams

Kinston was found to have players too old for Junior Legion. This was not found until the Form I rosters were being prepared to be mailed to Asheboro. Kinston was disqualified and will be replaced by Nash Central. Nash Central beat Kinston at the Eastern Qualifier.

:toilet: Wow, we had them eliminated in 7 only to give up the tie on a 6-3 throwing error- one ground ball that the kid makes the play 99/100 tries; then went on to lose in 11- Great game- tough luck for them

    ineligible players

Just a note, both players are rising seniors and are 17, but they were born prior to 1/1/1992. This doesn't make it right, but just to let you know there is no Danny Almonte story here. But a violation of the rules is a violation of the rules, no gray area.

I blame Mr. Daniels for this one! Area Commish and can't read the paper work. Give me a break. Read the article in the KFP by Ryan Herman.

The Kinston Post 43 junior legion baseball team’s Eastern Qualifier Tournament title was short lived.
Post 43 learned Monday that it had to forfeit the title won in Cary on Sunday because of its use of two ineligible players.
Head coach Jason Wade said he received a call from Don Daniels, the area commissioner, letting him know of the players’ ineligibility, and said a rule change in the age requirements he was unaware of was the cause.
“I’ve always done it that way and they changed the rules this year,” Wade said. “This was just unfortunate and I feel bad, but I didn’t do it on purpose.”
Wade said in years past, any rising high school senior who was not selected to play senior legion ball was allowed to participate on junior legion teams. But this year, the rule stated each player had to be born on or after Jan. 1, 1992, a change Wade said he wasn’t aware of. Post 43 had two who were born in 1991.
Wade said he turned in the proper paperwork and rosters to Daniels by the deadline, June 23, and said it was double-checked prior to last weekend’s tournament. After Post 43 dropped the first game, it won the next three, including an 11-1 five-inning game over West Johnston in the championship Sunday to qualify for the state tournament in Asheboro this weekend.
He was then contacted about the violation.
“I don’t know how you can look over the roster two times and not catch it then,” Wade said. “It’s just all really unfortunate.”

Again, I blame Mr. Daniels. Watch your back coaches.

it wasnt his fault. it was mine. ultimately it is my responsibility to know the rules and i did not. i read page one of the rule book and saw where it said "jr. legion players must be 17 years or younger" and assumed nothing had changed. the two players in question were born in december, one the 10th and the other the 28th.

our sr. legion team is by invite only. these two players would not have gotten the opportunity to play baseball this summer if not for jr. legion. the rule should be changed to the start of the school year, say september 1st of whatever year is in question.

i want to apologize to tarboro, farmville central, and west johnson. my mistake ultimately may have cost you guys an opportunity to respresent the east in asheboro.

    again, this was my fault.

good luck to cary, aycock, rocky mount, and nash central this weekend.
