I read where Kyle Brandenburg (Ragsdale 09/Campbell) hit a grand slam last night and the sixth home run this legion season. Pretty good hitting for a kid that hit only one home run in high school.

Clouds are building around here. Hope they stay away since I plan to be at the game tonight.

That's good to hear, wossa. Kyle is a great player. It always seems like the HR totals skyrocket when Legion season begins. I guess something about that summer air just makes the balls fly off the bat!

And Eagles1313, my prediction for high scoring games has nothing to do with the High Point staff. High Point does have good pitching. It's just that Mooresville has great hitting and not much pitching, that's why I'm predicting slugfests.

And I don't disagree that Mooresville has good hitting...I'm just going by the saying good pitching will beat good hitting...but who knows? We will see and that is why they play the game.

I think the long drag of high school season through the long legion season starts to take a toll on the pitching by this time of year. Couple that with teams that can hit 1-9 and you the games get out of hand some nights.

heading out to Finch Field now

Near the end of June, Mooresville was about 5-8 and on the brink of missing the playoffs completely. They have played some great baseball the past 2-3 weeks, and yes they are hitting the ball 1-9. I know great pitching can slow down hitting, but again right now the hitters seem to be coming out on top.

Look what happened to Lomascola last night, and he's one of the best in NC.

High Point continues to be hot at the right time. Coffey pitched great tonight after a shaky first inning (3 singles, two walks, wild pitch and 3 runs). After that he pretty much shut them down scattering 5 more singles with two walks and no more runs with ten strikeouts.

Mooresville pitcher (Walters) had a 123 first but followed that with six runs in the second with four walks, four hits and two wild pitches and High Point never looked back. Mooresville had a rough night in the field with at least eight errors. It looked like it might go the full nine innings but High Point got three straight walks in the eighth and scored two on a Nathan Midkiff sac fly and Alex Walters walk off RBI single.

for High Point Mike Whited was 2-3 with 2 walks an RBI and run scored. Kyle Brandenburg was 2-3, 2 walks, 2 runs scored. Sam Berrier was 1-3 with a walk, double, 3 RBIs, two runs scored. Justin Lassiter was 1-3, DB, 2 RBIs 2 runs scored. Nathan Midkiff was 1-3 with a walk, sac fly, 2 RBIs and run scored. Tyler Hickernell was 1-3, 2 walks, DB, 3 runs scored.

High Point is now 23-9 with eight straight in the playoffs now. Hopefully they can get their third straight sweep with another road win Thursday night.

bahj it was good to meet you tonight.

we had a couple future major leaguers in attendance tonight in Nick McBride and Wil Myers. Can't imagine how good the Hi Toms would be if those two were suited up.

    Rowan leads 2-0

    Rowan County 19
    Randolph County 3

    7 innings

    WP: Billy Veal
    LP: Steven Davis

Behind a 5-for-6 effort from Trey Holmes, Rowan went on the road and won going away Wednesday night. Rowan got the first two runners on in the top of the first but stranded those runners. There wouldn't be too many more stranded runners on the night. Holmes, Jon Crucitti and Preston Troutman all homered on the night to aid in the rout. Randolph threw about six wild pitches to allow a run to score from third, so they certainly didn't help themselves. Post 45 starter Steven Davis was wild and ineffective. Rowan was very patient and capitalized on his miscues to knock Davis out early. Rowan will try and go for the sweep Thursday night at Newman Park, where Rowan has only lost once this year. Forrest Buchanan will get the nod for Post 342. Colton Baughman should start for Randolph.
