    game 1 thoughts

Game 1 @ Shelby. Final is Cherryville 8, Shelby 6.

Didn't take any notes on paper tonight, so no boxscore from me, just some stuff I remembered.

Adam Benefield had a no-no going into the 6th. I think it was the 6th before a bunt single broke it up. He gave it all he had. Perhaps he just started running out of gas. He's pitched alot in the playoff so far. Drew Reynolds provided relief in the 9th.

Got to tip a hat to Shelby. So far down,(I think it was 8-0 going into the 7th) but still those young men didn't quit trying. Several home runs for Post 82 in the last couple of innings kept the crowd in their places. Speaking of the crowd, a real nice one. Would like to know how many. I do remember that the 50/50 was up around $1150. before they picked. So, someone, (never heard a name announced) got a pretty big half!

P.A. announcer finally said Dacanal's name correctly during his last at bat. The Shelby radio guy on 1390am did not. He said DeCanal all night. Maybe they had it spelled wrong on the score sheet. Had to listen to the Shelby broadcast after sunset, because you know the "mighty" 1590am signal is gonna disappear. The Shelby play-by-play guy is good, smooth. Sounds like he's called lots of baseball games.

Couple of things that may or may not make the papers, but should be noted. 1. Tripper Crisson may have had as many as 3 sacrifices, each one important at that time. 2. Korey Martin made a really nice diving onto his chest catch in centerfield to rob someone on Post 82.

Game 2 saturday night in Cherryville @ 7pm. Game is being broadcast.(see earlier post for info on website) Looking forward to it. Cherryville really needs to come strong if they want that 2-0 lead. Shelby proved tonight that they will be swinging untill the last out.

Oh, one Shelby player left the game after running hard to 1st. I think his name was McFarland (spelling may be wrong). I sure don't want any of these guys getting hurt, so I hope he will be alright in the morning.

Yea, Adam McFarland injured his back last night (Shelby's leader in homeruns, and RBI's) and there is a good chance he'll miss the rest of the series. One of the Shelby players told me that one of the Cherryville players told them (he said she said, I know) that Jake Watts may not pitch this series to rest his arm. Who knows if it is true of not. Cherryville came out hot last night and it took Shelby a while to get rolling. Y'all got to keep me posted the rest of the way because I'm leaving for the coaches clinic and then the beach tomorrow.

    reply to 3A

    Thanks for the info 3A.

I sure hope the injury is not serious. I know alot of you guys pick at and fuss at each other, but I don't think that any of us want any of those young men to get hurt.

I don't know about the Cherryville pitching. The Cherryville radio guys were speculating that they may do some combo of guys like Drewery, Carpenter, etc. just to get them some "in game" work since they were up one in the series. As for me, I'd be sticking with what got me there. You know, Watts, or Parks.

I'll take my notepad tonight and then once home, I'll post the boxscore and any other stuff I can to help give you a sense of how things went.
