    Dads in the dugout

Like everything else in life, this has to be considered on a case by case basis.

Dad's can be a good thing in the right situation. It takes a special player to have the dad in the dugout because no matter how talented you are there will always be the negativity involved from other players and parents to a certain degree. It takes a tough skin to be able to tune the comments out.

I think it's better for dad's to stay away from the dugout. Thru the years I have avoided the dugout (unless it's to throw a gatorade in every now & then) at all costs. I have a son playing baseball, but the argument's the same. Leave the dugout to the team & coaches. Players who have been coached by dad thru-out the years actually get better when dad steps away. It's got to happen eventually! On the flip side, there are some very good dad's coaching at the high school & college level, (showcase ,too)!

    no

No never called pitches. That should be handled by the pitcher working with her catcher.

That is a different subject. If the catcher is not going to be the one calling the pitches (most do not) then whoever is the best on the staff (or is designated by the head coach) at calling pitches should be the one doing it...and that could be a dad.
