Diamond Thunder, SunDevils, Blues, and Cards:
Congratulations on a wonderful accomplishment for 2009. Any time that you get to represent your state (NC) on a national stage, it IS a big deal.

Critics would say that it costs too much to go, that it is meaningless to travel so far away to play competitive teams when you can find a good ballgame in your own backyard. Those statements may be true.

    However, so is this one:
You young ladies are trailblazers for NC softball. Like the teams or not, whether they win it all or go home early, those girls go where "eagles dare to fly." They are the reason that college coaches come from all over the country to see teams play in the Dynamites, Cardinal Classic, and other local showcases.

Without Ray's Cards, Rodney's Blues, and other teams over the years that are willing to take the "challenge", our girls would be restricted to go to only NC schools. By consistently showing well in these national tournaments, these teams are laying the groundwork for everyone's "DD" to have an opportunity to play at the next level.

Expensive? Time consuming? Most certainly.....BUT, if not them, then who?
CONGRATS NC TEAMS....ALL OF YOU who took the dare to go nationwide.
Once again, you've done NC proud. I can't wait until next year!!!!

Earning respect 1 team at a time

You are right, this is big! Both NC and SC have better representation in the big shows (ASA Nationals) this year than in any year past. The only way to get the players and teams the respect they so deserve is to play in ASA Nationals on a regular basis year in and year out and quit putting the other ABC events at the top of the priority lists. NC has some GOOD TEAMS and some GOOD PLAYERS! But until they prove it on the big stages, they will not earn the respect they so deserve.

Attending ANY level of ASA Nationals looks better on a player's profile sheet than winning any or all of the other ABC's. From what I know, there were lots of college coaches at every level of the "A" Nationals (USA/ASA, Southern and Eastern) for 18u, 16u and even 14u. What else can you say???

Just got to figure out how to get some NC and SC at the Gold Nationals for next year. But with the caliber of people in the lead of some of the programs in NC, that you mentioned above, they will figure out a way to get it done!

Congrats to those teams representing NC at the ASA Nationals. One day your players will thank you for it!

Great Post!!!! Nothing more exciting then the cream of the crop tournament at BIG cost. If you have not been then come up with creative fund raisers......our girls even begged for money (haha) Truely one tournament that my daughter will NEVER forget!!
