I am new to TBR so forgive me if I make a few hiccups. My family and I will be moving to the Raleigh area mid year possibly sooner. I am looking to gather some insight about good HS softball programs in the area. Let me be clear on my definition of "good". My daughter will be a freshmen this year and has been playing TB/ REC ball since age of 6. She is a solid player and IF she wants to play at the college level that will be her choice. I am not the dad that will push her -she is self driven and I will support her v/s push. I am looking for a good school first and foremost with a softball program that is competitive with consistant, knowledgable coaching. I want her to be well coached at the high school level but more importantly supported as a student athlete and person first. She will look to play TB once in the area with a team that fits her needs. As all dads will probably say about their daughter; she is a good, solid player that in my opinion can play at the college level on some level. I want to make the best decision for my family. All comment are welcome. Thank you.:42:

come on over to eastern Chatham County! We're right next to Wake and your kid won't have to worry about the school board changing which district (school) you will have to attend each year.
The high school is Northwood in Pittsboro. It is a 2-A school that has a very good softball program. They are returning three former all state players next year and have won their conference the past two years.
Kids from this high school have moved on to every level of college academically and more and more are doing so on the athletic side.
Less traffic, more land, more country/small town than Raleigh/Wake County. And, you're still an easy commute to where you'll probably work.

2-A so what is the size of that school? How far from wake county? I like the fact of not changing districts every year. But I would hope it would not change that often in 4 years :kwijl:. Was doing some looking around in the Tri-8 conference, Cap-7 and Chapel Hill area. Thanks I will put Northwood on the list and give it some research.

If you are in the Raleigh area I would strongly encourage you to look at South Granville High School. The head coach is very solid and fundamentally sound teacher, the assistant coach has many years travel experience as an 18u ASA head coach and has helped place many players in college. By the way my daughter does not attend this school as we do not live in that area, so my recommendation is totally none bias.

    good schools

these 4 will be good for HS..... S Alamance, S Durham, Northwood and Apex and all are 30 to 45 min to Raleigh. If you are also looking for TB teams for your DD. You may have heard this before.... "Go West Young Man" Follow I-40w and I-85s from Burlington to G-boro to Charlotte for all the TB you would ever want to play. Plenty of 18U teams this way that will play showcase ball. The Cardinals, The Blues, The Knockouts and many many more.

All the schools in the area have their share of players playing at all division levels. Admittedly, Raleigh city schools are not as strong as schools outside the city. That being said, the following schools, at least, have all had players play or commit to D1 teams recently: Broughton, Sanderson, Enloe, Athens. I know there are more but I can't recall at the moment.

I think it falls more on the players than it does the school. TB, of course, is where they tend to perform their best. On their HS teams they do usually stand out, though!

I think it would be hard to find a "bad" school/team in this area as far as the individual player is concerned. The few schools I mentioned above are in a usually weak conference but they have had some very good players.

If you're coming in this season you've got one last opportunity to play HS ball with the likes of Jordan Scarboro, Wake Forest/Rolesville, a UNC recruit and probably the best 2nd baseman I've ever seen (although she doesn't think of herself as a 2nd baseman.) I'm betting UNC puts her there. And there are many other top players in the area.

Personally, I would look for the school with the highest academic rating. (Enloe is one of those.) As far as softball goes, you need to focus more on the best TB team that fits your DD requirements. There are plenty of those around. And if your DD is really good there are TB teams in the area that will find her!
