I would like to hear what some have done and whether it was a success or not. Would also like to hear from those who do not advise this. My personal opinion on these has been not to use them. I believe increased velo comes from the pitchers ability to transfer weight from the back leg to the front landing leg, in a mechanically efficent way. The ball weighs 5 oz so explosiveness from the lower body would seem to be more effective then a slow movement with a heavier ball. But I am trying to learn what is the best way. Keep in mind this is for a 14yr old looking for long term development and remaining as injury free as fate will allow.

My first response to questions about weighted balls is always as follows, "how did we arrive at a 5 oz. ball?". In other words, if we were using a 4 oz. ball in this game, then a 5 oz. ball would be considered ,"weighted". This is a topic that is difficult to get into on a message board. I would suggest you send a pm to ANDRO and get his opinion. He has studied this in depth. He's probably going to tell you to research Paul Nyman and Ron Wolforth.

It's the slow time of the year. Probably the only time all season people are catching their breath. That's why you see some 'silly' posts right now. It picks back up in October---it's a good idea to bring this up again when the college coaches are through with their fall workouts.

I'm sure Kenny May will be having his Boot Camp this year: He will post something about it in Nov.
