that a 20,000 square foot training facility will be opening in the city of gastonia serving both softball and baseball, concentrating on hitting and defense. In thinking about this, i believe this will increase the interest and talent in softball and baseball if this facility is used. have also heard that a former major leaguer will be involved with management and training. i try not to post rumors, and really this isnt one, as i have heard it from a top level source.......but until it opens, or is publizied, i guess it classifies as a rumor.

With all of the bonafide interest in baseball, softball, and for that matter ALL sports out your way, I see this gig as a winner for the owners and the folks spending money and time with their kids there.

    Sounds great!

    hey fishy

I guess I could ask my neighbor if I could convert 1 of his OLD chicken houses into some type of facility in Stanly Co. and the field out back could become a great ball field with good RICH soil for grass. We don't want all the good stuff just on the west side. Or maybe go to Union Co and even more chicken/turkey houses to choose from. Think any former major leaguer would like to try it over here.

    where is "over here"?

....funny that you bring such a cool thing up Stanley.

Whats wrong with turning a chicken house or a barn into a batting cage?

Matter of Fact, I know of a family in Angier, NC who put together a nice place with heat, A/C, nets, machines......and all for free to the kids. No BS, this place is cool. We've had pig pickins' and oysters, etc while the mommas put together the dishes on the table for everybody to dig into.

Props to the grandaddy, grandmama, and the good people who show up.

20,000 square feet is a different animal. Obviously an undertaking of leasing and financing such a place is a big deal. I wish them the best.

To answer your question of" would any major leaguer " like to try it over here, .....well I hope so.

    Believe It Or Not !!

Stanley is talking about my neighborhood, I live right behind about 5 turkey houses and when the wind is right, well that is all I'll say about that as Forest Gump would say...:EMOSTVomitIntoTheTo

We had three local facilities close this winter within weeks of each other. While the Golden Strip of SC is a hot bed of baseball/softball, supporting three separate facilities within 5 miles of each other wasn't in the cards.

We are actively searching for and old barn or work shop in our area to convert into an indoor workout area. Sure 20,000 feet is nice but I could get a lot done with my girls in a much smaller area. Anything is better than what we have now for bad weather days, that would be nothing.LOL
