After reading TBR and the recent updates about Cary-Area commitments, it got me thinking about how much Ron Powell has done for kids in the Cary American Legion program.

From reading TBR and visiting the Bulls' website, just this summer:
Landon Powell #2 catcher with the Oakland A's
Cory Harrilchak signs with Atlanta Braves
Andrew Wilson signs with Atlanta Braves
Brett Eibner stars for Arkansas in the CWS
Alan DeRatt pitches in the minor leagues for the Rockies
Tim Federowicz catches in the minor leagues for the Red Sox
Matt Mangini starts in AA for the Mariners
Mickey Hall starts in AAA for the Indians
Grant Shambley commits to Wake Forest
    Adam Bogosian commits to UNC-Greensboro
    Joe Pistachio commits to App
    Blair Betts commits to Indiana
-All former Cary Bulls and I am sure I am forgetting some. There will also almost certianly be more commitments in the coming weeks.

I have witnessed his program first-hand over the last several years and there is not one coach in the summer game that pushes his players to be the best players they can be other than Ron Powell. He demands 110% and he gets it. He doesn't do it for the wins or the championships. He doesn't do it for a certain school. He does it to help the young men develop into the best possible player they can be on the field and to help the young men develop into 1st class people. It's amazing what players can be with the direction of Powell and his Bulls coaching staff. The team practices harder in pre-game than most teams play. It really is something to see... watching a player develop under Powell and the Bulls program.

Just wanted to take this time to give credit where credit is due.

Thank you Ron Powell for all you do in the area with local kids.

I agree. Coach Powell, his staff, and the Cary Bulls are very good.

You better have your sh%$# together when playing Ron's teams. You may get him a time or two during the regular season, but he has bigger plans in mind at the end. Always enjoyed coaching against Ron, and I know our players liked playing against his teams as well.

Don't forget Don Daniels and Harold Kelly. Don is the Legion Athletic Director and Harold is a long-time assistant coach. These guys, and Ron...and their families, are very dedicated to seeing their players succeed.

They put in an awful lot of effort and don't have a dog in the fight.

What a testament to the program.

Glad to see someone point out Mr Daniels. He has always been an inspiration to me. The work he puts in often goes unappreciated but the Cary Legion program would be nothin without his hard work!!
