    ECU recruiting

ECU's starting lineup this season (when Sutton isn't pitching) will likely be composed of nine girls from 'the island' or Cali. These girls are all exceptional student-athletes (the team GPA is north of 3.50). Coach Kee has attempted to recruit NC talent but the poor facilities here have left her at a considerable disadvantage (it's tough when fans and players have to share the port-a-john!). This will change in the next 12 months as construction began this week on a new 4 million dollar stadium. I suspect going forward that you'll see ECU become more competitive in recruiting local talent.

As for my daughter, she did not want to stay in Greenville to play college softball. We supported this decision. She was recruited by a number of schools in the Carolina's but chose JMU because of its excellent academics and the opportunity to be a 'difference maker'.

...ECU AD Terry Holland is doing a great job in Greenville, and I'm happy to hear that some of the Pirates money is going to the softball complex.
Is the new facility being built behind Harrington, where the old field was?
Keep us posted with a website of the construction procees if indeed one is available.
    Thanks, Fish

    Have money go play

If your team has the money go play as many tournaments as you can from the east coast to the west coast. The time with your daughter will be gone very soon and her softball career will be a thing of the past. If you have a good team go play where you will be tested instead of playing in one place and beating everyone there. If I had the money I would get the 12 best HIGH SCHOOL players I could find and thats not hard if it doesn't cost anything and travel as much as they wanted to play. Most girls around here will not go farther than three hours to play in college anyway but play everywhere you can. There is plenty of talent on the east coast but if I was a college coach I would love to go out west for a week for some great softball.
