This sounds like the tournament that the 16U NC Challengers coach put on this past summer for 16/18 U. I don't know how successful it was but it seemed to be a good idea IMO

That's true, but they would be known as the best until then! And once they're the best they become a target and it grows from there . . .

They've got something similar going on currently. Did anyone see what Johnny Damon did last night? Stealing 2nd and then 3rd? That was awesome! Things like that happen when you have full games. True competition brings out the best!!!

    no time limits

Games with no time limits = high school . Only place I know and that is because 2 teams get together and only have each other to worry about for the entire day.

Other than that, the only place where time limits were not involved was an ASA National Qualifier.

In competitve games, time limits should not matter. If both coaches will get together and hustle on and off, cut down on stupid signals and conferences and substitute between innings not during, no injuries, you can play 7. We played the Atl Vipers this past weekend in 1 hr and 15 min in a 4 to 4, 7 inning game and had time left. But neither team did anything EXCEPT play some darn good softball!

Seems like I remember him getting a little flak for his efforts. But it sounds like what I'm talking about. I didn't get to that tournament but I hope it was free of unnecessary time limits and tie games. There's no place for that in the type of competition I'm talking about.

In the type of tournament I'd like to see you win or lose; even if it takes until one in the morning. Losers go home early; winners get to sleep late!

There are a lot of reminders of how strong the Challengers have been over at Grand Slam. Anyone who remembers the Ray McGee days knows what that was like. That's what I would love to see again.

    Okay No Time Limits----

Just don't complain if you are playing @ 2:00 A.M. in the morning because teams have a 14 inning game, seen it happen in N.C. High School States..

Just for thought, suppose you had a tournament like I'm talking about and they only had a few teams.

Let's make believe those teams were the Carolina Wildcats, Lady Blues, Cardinals (Chandler, McHone, et al), Curve, Cobras, etc. Add any I missed of that level.

They are playing for this tournament championship--period! There will only be one first place finish. 2nd, 3rd, etc. is ok, of course.

How many college coaches will be there? Many!!! And that's not even considering the teams I left off who could qualify (be invited) to be there.

This tournament could easily be done in a weekend. AND---it would grow!!!

    Organize it

Put it together and see what happens, don't know till it is a reality and not a dream or thought.
Will say this, have played the Cardinals, the Cobras, the Challengers, Crushers and many teams such as Ga Elite, Knockouts, Batbusters, Ga Fire, etc in some great showcase games, some of most exciting and competitive softball games ever! Neither team gave an inch and yes all the kids played!

    Time Limit

The problem as I see it is not the fact that there is a time limit - it is the fact that the time limit is too short. When 95% of the games never make it past the 5th inning, the time limit is too short. These games should have a 1 1/2 hour time limit.

    Just Remember

You would have to lower the teams entered because there is only 24 hours in a day, I know let's lengthen the day:helpsmilie:that would help matters..
