I was told this weekend that as of 12/31/2009- composite bats will no longer be allowed in high school. is this true?

Actually a timely topic, before Christmas lists get made out and parents begin budgeting for gear under the tree... anywhoo....

Composites not banned from college, but there is a one year moratorium on the use of composite barrel bats in college baseball. This will give the bat manufacturers time to meet the questions and demands of the NCAA from their own "study". Apparently, a few of the composite barrels met guidelines when tested, but POSSIBLY can exceed guidelines after a time period of use.

I have not heard that they have been banned from HS play, however I did hear that the Federation has or has recommended it.... which normally means that HS will follow suit. I will see what I can dig up and post up. If they are, I am not surprised.

Back with more info... if anyone already wants to beat me to it, that's cool...

    Any Update

Has anyone learned more about a composite bat ban for HS? My son's Christmas list just came out in paperback and composite bat was the #1 request.

I doubt that it would happen this year...HS may take their lead from colleges, but implementing decisions is never a sense of urgency. I believe by the time the composite bats are changed to specs agreed by the NCAA, it will be back in business.

"The National Federation of State High School Associations says it doesn't intend to ban composite bats. "
