SMC went 55-9 last year with 12 players committed to D-1 schools. Finished 5th in the country and made there 4th trip to the World Series in the last 8 years.

Tim Wallace is hands down the top baseball coach in this area as well. His career record is 807-247 = .765 win %

It also seems like they have no problem getting the top NC kids either.

SMC does have a great program. Everyone has their own opinion on the "best" but it has to be in everyone's conversation atleast.

SMC, Louisburg, Pitt, and Lenoir (DII) are traditionally very tough JUCO programs in the Carolina's. Wilkes and Southeastern are building strong programs as well. I'm sure I am forgetting a few.

Who has SMC landed out of the 2010 class from NC? Or did you already list them?

    Wake Tech CC

What do you guys think about the program over at Wake Tech. How long do you think it will take for them to start being a power in the conference? I dont see them having a down program being in the Raleigh area and playing at the USA complex. They have four or five kids from D1 programs including UNCC,Wingate and Carolina. As well as a kid from Louisburg and Florence Darlington. Should be a little bit of a surprise this year.

I think they will be fine over the course of a few years. Region X is very good baseball so I can't see a new program really busting out strong from the get go. Coach Kiec is a very good coach and will have them competing hard without a doubt. Being in the Raleigh area will definitely be a plus once the program is established (home field... will it always be at USA's training fields?). It will keep a lot of Raleigh-area kids home rather than them going off to other Region X programs.

Should be fun to watch Kiec and his team play. I look forward to seeing them this spring out at the USA Complex. Plus they have 3-4 former players from Cary High that I wish the best.

Will WTCC continue to practice at Holly Springs HS in the spring? Is there a baseball field at Wake Tech in the works? Several of the Region X schools have outstanding baseball fields on campus.

No question about it, Tim Wallace has done a fabulous job. SMC has been a powerhouse for 40 years...no news there. If no one knows about them...they don't know anything about JUCO baseball.

    Interesting info:

After looking at SMC web I found that:

Spartanburg has placed 88 players in pro ball.
    14 players are still active.
    11 players have MLB time.

    A few names:
    Orlando Hudson
    Reggie Sanders
    Mookie Wilson
    Glen Sutko
    Dwight Smith
    Bill Landrum
    Jeff McNeely

IMO, with the transfer and sit rule and over recruiting in D1 and D2 we are about to see JUCO take off.

    best JUCO programs

In our recruiting journeys this summer we visited 4 JUCOs 2 in NC, 1 in GA and 1 in SC and all of them have great talent. I would put them up against any D1 (w/exception to UNC) in this state and they would run those teams day in and day out.

A lot of kids only think D1 is the way to go but JUCO has GREAT talent top to bottom and they play the game the same way those D1 schools play.....I think :tongue3:

    D1 Vs. Juco

When my son was at louisburg last year they went up to VCU on a weeknight in the fall and played !4 innings against the rams and lost a tight one 5-3. This is with two of there premiere arms last year on the DL with Tommy John these programs will surprise you.
