If a player was injured by a hit ball from the bat and the bat was confiscated and found to have been altered there could be much more to worry about in personal or maybe even team or sanction liability than a $300 bat.

If the change in bat specs occurred naturally that would be another issue but even then I would hate to be a defendant against a jury looking at the face or knee of a young athlete.

I agree completely, but I purchased the bat new. The irony is that the pitcher was hit in the knee, and she had knee pads that were pulled down. I know pitchers fight the protection, but we've all experienced too many close calls. I really don't know how much the pitching distance changes will help as far as reaction time, but I really wish pitchers were required to wear mask at least until 16U, or High School. From the original post, it doesn't sound like bat manufacturers can manufacture these composite bats to the necessary repeatable tolerances. If over 30% were culled at World Series, then there is no way a manufacturer with a 30% scrap factor could make these bats, and we the consumers be able to afford them.

If a bat tests below a certain compression the ball will come off faster than 98mph..... it really has NOTHING to do with any of the variables.
