I agree, but if an assistant coach is keeping the book, which most should do, and most do then they should be accurate. But I'm sure it happens. At our high school we have 2 score keepers and they compare after the game...That's a good practice and it works

I think in most cases it is another player or parent keeping the scorebook and just because it may be an assistant coach keeping the book doesn't mean that it will be correct. I find that many assistant and head coaches alike in high school think that if you make contact with the ball then it is a hit. Many of the scorebook mistakes in high school are not made on purpose but out of ignorance of the game. There are some schools that are fortunate enough to have knowledgeable coaches but most schools do not.

    Back on track...

I am a little surprised that no one has mentioned Ledford. They have moved up to 3A and will be in the conference with SW Randolph. Ledford has 3 returning all-state players including Kristen Murphy in the circle. In addition to having many starters returning, they have two freshmen coming up that swing the bat HARD that could make a big impact. (Meg Everhart and Ashley Best) It should be interesting and I can hardly wait!

I dont know about all the stats with the 43 feet . I believe the teams with good defense and no errors will beat some of the teams that have been so good because of their picthing. There will not be as many strike outs to bail out a weak defense. I think everybody is going to be surprized this year as some teams fall. To early to predict for me.

I also believe that 43' will be a factor this spring. The girls, both the hitters and the pitchers, who have gotten some experience at 43' with travel ball will be ready. Those that haven't may struggle some.

Sticking to the theme of the thread and talking about TEAMS, I think JM Robinson with a new coach and attitude can be a good team this year.

    SCOREKEEPER????

A lot of the problem is with who is keeping score and the head coach. Not always but a lot of the time it goes like this, a routine grounder to shortstop she bobbles it and the batters DAD or MOM who is keeping the book puts down a hit instead of a error. Everybody knows about the politics in high school. The other part of that is the coach who is looking at his watch and wondering when is this game going to be over with so I can go home. That is the biggest problem with high school athletics as a whole, the AD puts whoever in a coaching role if they know the sport or not just to have someone there and they don't really care what the stats are. There is coaches who put their heart and soul in their programs and you can tell who they are by the way their teams perform year after year and thank God for them.

The girls I work with play 1A. Lost out to North Johnson, I think that was the school, last year. There pitcher was a freshmen I know that. Seems from last years state tournament that the western part of the state is ahead of us down east. Maybe we are spending too much time at the beach and not enough on the field.:glasses:

Yikes! This comment can, and I am sure over the course of the spring WILL, be a thread of its own...
