I wish Butler had a better preseason workout schedule. I know Kell and Providence have getting it done some 4 days a week. I know the weather has not helped, but my guess is that Butler has not gotten together more than a handful of times this past few months. They need an indoor program and better use of the weight room. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Here is an awesome piece of equipment for guys who don't have access to a weight room. It's called the TRX. Ive been working out with it the past couple of months and it absolutely crushes me from head to toe. I haven't felt in this good of "pitching shape" in years.

Here is a video of Drew Brees endorsing the TRX and showing you some of the workouts:

The decision is yours if you decide to take it or leave it. But I wanted to throw it out there for you or anyone looking for a great piece of equipment to enhance their training and prepare for the season.

5 days out of the week in my neck of the woods. Weight lifting, core work, and conditioning. Wednesday is the only off day from lifting... everyday as conditioning and core work. Not to mention morning workouts everyday for pitchers and catchers who also do the afternoon workouts.

I wish they had the TRX when my son was in HS. I bet he would have avoided many if not all his arm injuries. Once one learns all the techniques...this could become a godsend for pitchers

Thanks all for feedback.......That TRX looks very effective......we were into Crossfit and still use the exercises ourselves, but as good as the football team was, I wish they could put some focus on baseball. Maybe they will, who knows?

    preseason

Upperclassmen in the AM before school. Hour and a half then shower, eat breakfast and classes. Pitchers and catchers in the afternoon with a little BP for other players. No more than 8 though.

Hard to get out much in this weather. Have to do a lot on your own. I was thinking coaches could only do 8-man workouts now, other than physical training workouts. Am I wrong about that?

If you work when everyone else works, your game doesn't pass anybody. It's the snow days, rainy days, and vacation days when nobody is watching that your game gets better.

I was fortunate enough to meet some of the guys from the Ardrey Kell team at the Hot Stove dinner. Yes they have one of the most respected and prepared coaches in high school baseball in Hal Bagwell. But, in talking to those guys, it was clearly their self-discipline and motivation that brought the state title back to Charlotte.

The best players I have been around find a way.
