I remember last year's preseason and ak was #6. I am suprised that Wilmington Hoggard is not listed in this year's preseason top 10.

    That One Kid

The rankings are fun, but it amazes me how one kid who no one was counting on steps up, and can change a team and the Rankings completely. It happens every year, can't wait to see who steps up this year. I am ready to play Ball!

Derrick Ham - Senior that was on the bench the entire season (made two spot starts on mound) was called upon to play second in the final two games in the regionals and the state championship series. There he had 13 assist and seven put outs without an error, two sac bunts that led to runs each time and a huge two out two run scoring base hit in the top of the seventh in the finals to seal a game one victory leading to a state championship.

I'd say Ashton Lover from AK was even a bigger one. Mincmi you can comment on him

Lake Norman HS (last year's 3A state champs) moved up to 4A this year, and they are relatively unknown as a state baseball power before last year. I'm only assuming these are the reasons they're not in the 4A poll,,, because truthfully they return an awful lot, had a very strong JV program, and I expect they'll be in all the 4A conversations before season's end.

    players that stepped up

Lover and Ham are good ones. I know the Gehringer kid at Butler moved up to Varsity during a suspension and stepped up. Campana got in to the varsity lineup on a loaded Providence team part of the way through the year.

Mincmi would be the expert on this one.

In Impact Baeball's Private School Polls the 3-A looks pretty good but the 2-A and 1-A polls are a bit out of line.

Based on the tryouts this week, there are plenty of returning varsity players and underclassmen to compete for starting positions. Good Luck Coach Greeson!!

Checkswing- It looks like a strong returning team and they should be very good. I have watched these players for years and my son has played against them. Watching some of Hopewell's games last year (JV and Varsity) the players listed above were all starters last year except for Justin Hammond. This kid was on the JV all year and might have been pulled up to dress late in the season but didnt see much action at all. This year they will need to find a few outfielders to replace the seniors that graduated. On another note I believe most of the teams pitching staff is back and should be very strong.
