Helping Parents With College Plans?

I am wanting to get a feel as to if this service would be a good one?

I have been a teacher/coach for 26 years and have always helped any and every kid no matter where they are from at no cost. I have witnessed parents writing $2500 dollar checks to companies to help them place their daughter in college for ball. These things I have always done for free. I have a very strong background in this type of thing. Travel Softball with my daughter has allowed me to have a very strong working knowledge of how the sport works and I have developed a good relationship with a great number of college coaches. Having two kids in college soon, one undergraduate and one graduate and this being very expensive. I am contemplating the idea of offering services from the 9th grade to college on such things but not limited to: NCAA Rules and Regulations, Transcripts, GPA's, SAT/ACT tutorial information, references to college coaches etc.. for a flat fee of $500. Posting this to get thoughts.

 

Fast Pitch ???

Has fast pitch as we know it today been around for 26 years ?? I thought back then it was more like a modified pitch. I think that what we see now has been around 10-15 years with the strong recruiting process that we have today, but I could be wrong !! Seems like when my niece was about 10 years old, and now she is 24 years old the talk of college recruiting was really becoming popular for the interested athlete..

Over ten with softball. Several with high level travel ball. Enough to know the difference in making an honest assessment on where they can play. This is evident by college coaches asking my opinions on kids at travel ball tournaments. Working with NCAA athletes all 26. Making sure kids are successful and being honest with parents along with teaching about what should be talked about and not blowing smoke up someones rear, more than 26 including volunteer time in college.

i think there is a great need for this kind of service,and 500.dollars would be a great bargain! suprises me how much parents and kids don't know about college ball and how to get there.all the talent in the world want help you stay in college if you don't have the desire and have found the right fit(school)..grades= money..

 

Thanks for your comment. It is amazing how many coaches are dogged that are trying to help kids because parents are not educated on how things work and given an honest opinion.

 

Yea U Hit It !!!

Agreed there are too many people taking advantage of the newbies that are trying to reach the collegiate level, but don't have any idea where to start. By far emailing the coaches was my daughter's most success,and of course her talent on the field. But a valid point mentioned about grades, and I will say Coach Cole emphasizes to keep a close realationshp with God, and a strong academic GPA. Softball, thirdly is a plus to any athlete, and it should be in that order to maintain a good balance.

I assume you are talking about Coach Cole from Gardner Webb. What a great guy that is in it for the right reasons. My daughter had GW in her final two. The program she chose has a coach with the same qualities at UNCW. This is always refreshing to see.

GREAT POINTS. Every one of those 26 years I have emphasized:

IN THIS ORDER
1. God
2. Family
3. Academics
4. Athletics

And over 26 years it has proven to work.
Way too many parents are not sure what to do and how to do it. And many of them do not have a realistic idea of the talent level of their daughters. It is of great importance to start during the 9th grade and make sure a HIGH EMPAHASIS is put on academics. Much more money for college with grades than athletics. Each child is different and should be handled accordingly. I deal with these issues all day, everyday. God is always first.
