    How are the coaches selected?

Would be nice to see a coach from somewhere besides Tuscola or Pisgah. My pick would be the coach from Polk County. That fellow there produces! He knows the game. ...or you might consider some of the folks from the smoky mountain conference in 1a. murphy? swain? rosman? cherokee? robbinsville? hayesville? andrews?
from the state games website i saw Coach Goodwin from Pisgah has been selected to coach region 8. Coach, i hope you give objective consideration to some of the kids from other conferences, whether they be 4a, 3a, 2a or 1a. I think your pitching rotation could be helped by: the owen pitcher (great change of speed), murphys pitcher (can play any position and great hitter); swains pitcher (crazy movement). maybe you can make the Polk county coach your assistant!

    Selections

Coaches must apply to the State Games for consideration to be a State Games coach. Coaches must be a member of the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association to be eligible. The job is a four year commitment to the State Games and the NCSCA to coach in the games. Not every coach is willing to commit. A big thank you to the coaches that do!!!

I think the State Games is a good concept but the experience for the girls is only as good as the coaches make it. Hopefully this year District 8 coaches will take it as seriously as the girls do and at least show up at the field with the equipment in time for the girls to warm up before the game. Last year the coaching staff were just walking in the gate with their Big Gulps when they were calling for the line up cards. The girls were told to go straight to the field and not stop to eat. I know that it was a good experience for some teams but many of the girls and parents from district 8 had a bad taste in their mouth afterwards. If the coaches want to socialize with their friends and vacation they should wait until after the games. We had almost as many "coaches" in the dugout as we had players.

Murphy's pitcher didn't even try out for the team last year and Owen's pitcher who is a senior this year was hurt. They took 3 2A pitchers and only gave two of them a chance to pitch and yes they got rocked. The girl that had the most movement on the ball got to pitch about two innings. You are right, the coaches thought hard and fast would get it done because it worked in a weak conference. Some of the best players in the district didn't even tryout for the team.
