I also disagree with those parents that continually pump up their kids and tell them they are the best etc etc, they are doing their child a disservice. I often find myself doing the opposite and being too hard on my daughter, I try to think it pushes her to do even better. But just stating that kids are celebrated all the time on TBR and it's enjoyable to see who is excelling and doing great in a sport that we all love! Fun to watch our NC girls get kudos and watch them grow through the years and even better to see them rewarded for all of their hard work! Some will fail and that's the reality down the road but let's continue to celebrate what they are doing now.... they will all be gone and grown up too soon!

    Agreed !!

Just trying to help young parents see that all kids are human and sometimes raising the bar too high can cause failure down the road !!

    Disagree w/ the Guru? Gasp!

Can't say I agree w/the almighty Guru. I haven't seen anything posted recently that is putting a player on a pedestal. If someone has a great game, you should post it. Bear in mind that contrary to some, not everyone reads tbr religously and 99% of those that follow the hs game aren't even seeing this. I have also followed the former hs stars during their college careers (wouldn't go far as to say i've done a study of it) and several are off to a very good start. Not sure who guru is looking at but here a few websites you can check out where freshman and sophomores are making an immediate impact to their teams: UNC CH, UNCC, App, Lenoir Rhyne, Erskine, Limestone, CofC, Wingate, Belmont Abbey, Northwest Florida, Chipola, Mars Hill, etc, etc. And yes, there are some freshmen who are having to wait to get their chance due to their teams nees. I'm actually impressed of these kid's accomplishments so far.

Alot of these players were 'put on that pedestal' last couple of years and are doing well in college. Guru, is it maybe that you don't think some players are getting the same publicity as the ones you speak of? Posting something great on this board is not going to ruin anyone's career or give them the big head. Cuz the kid ain't reading it anyway, just their dad is.

    movie

Pumping a kid up or instilling a drive type challenge??? In the movie "FACING THE GIANTS" a young man was challenged to give it 100%. Give everything he had, go all the way don't stop. Was he pumped up or challenged? I think if kids are encouraged even pushed to give 100%. They will later be glad they were pushed and a kid will remember it. Remember when a golfer named TW came around and pushed the bar higher and the others raised their game. I will continue to challenge my DD to give her 100%. She may even get mad. We as parents in our business/professional world are challenged and we were challenged when we were little like these kids. So push your kids a little, set the bar high even to an impossible limit. My DD may never hit a HR over the fence but I know she wants to. I remember hitting my 1st 300yd drive off the tee. I wanted to do it again. I was pumped..... I watched an Andy Griffith show where Opie wanted to win all the awards and did not get anything, he even finished last. His attitude was poor afterwards and Andy said he was dis-appointed in Opie. Not because he finished last but because of his attitude. Believe me, a kid may not want to finish last, but kids really don't want to dis-appoint their parents and coaches and themselves.

Well, with over 12 million hits a month and using your opinion that 99% that follow HS softball don't read this. Wow, just wait till the other 99% find out. It should be exciting.

You have my point completely wrong (maybe I didn't word correctly to make the point) I think you should push kids to be the very best and as I said I drive my children to be #1 and to always give 100% at all times, why would you want to push them to just be "mediocre". My point was just somewhat agreeing with a prior statement to not make them too cocky but to obviously push them in the right direction. Anyway, this thread has really been beat to death I think all points have been taken.... on to the next exciting softball topic...

Push is different than being shoved, if you don't balance a kids life out they will hate the very thing they are doing...TRUST ME !!
