I got to thinking about this yesterday and thought I would post a note so others would realize how little time is left for their senior sons to be playing high school baseball.

Trying to enjoy every minute left...

Am also very thankful for the words from ECU78 who shared this a while back. I have tried to keep this in my mind all season:

    ECU78 post---

After visiting this site for awhile, I saw this thread and just had to add my special memory. My son liked to play baseball but was never great at it. He wasn't talented enough to play high school ball but he played summer ball whether it was Little League or Babe Ruth, He never made any all star teams or such. He was just good enough to start. Most of all, he liked to play Babe Ruth ball with his friends. The boys just had a good time even though success was hard to find. During a Senior Babe Ruth game one night, my son was playing first and a fly ball was hit behind first into short right field. He turned and hustled to make an over the head catch that Willie Mays would have been proud of. I just stood there not believing what I just saw. I was in awe. Before I could make my way out of the dugout (I was on scorebook duty) to congratulate him, he had already returned the ball to the pitcher and was in stance for the next defensive play. With the next pitch, a ball was hit to second and he dropped a perfect throw at first. I told him when he came in how pretty the fly ball catch was and then asked him what happened on the throw from second. I can remember how fast his smile changed into a lowered head. To this day, I regret not making a bigger deal out of the great catch. And now I can't. My son was killed almost two years ago, months after making that catch. I responded to this thread so I could tell the dads out there to make sure you appreciate the memories you have and ones to come. Make sure your son has a smile on his face after the game. More importantly, make sure you do to. Always be positive and somehow forget the "bad". Believe me, winning or losing a baseball game just isn't that important anymore. I would give anything to see that smile again.

Thanks for the reminder PLL. As mentioned each year, the senior season is a blur...between the baseball season, prom, graduation and getting ready for college the senior season lasts a week! Try to slow it down. It is the last time your son will be a kid.

It's sort of been an ugly season for my senior son. From getting hit in the same wrist on back to back pitches in a preseason scrimmage to nursing a pulled hammie for the last week. Seems like nobody wants to challenge him. Has any of the other players/parents noticed a trend like this after you or your son committed to a college?

Thanks Wossa. He's pretty confident right now. He really loves being on the team with his brother. Batting in front of Ben Fultz doesn't hurt either. He and Billy have to protect Ben and make sure he sees some pitches. Ben is on fire.

    PLL,
Been keeping up with "The Georgetown" boy. I can see why you are having so much fun. Also, the "proud papa " look, looks good on you. Tell that boy to keep it going and maybe we can meet on the field later in the year.:30:

Strange you should mention this about your son being challenged. I had a similar, but different situation with my son BEFORE he committed. His reputation as a hitter reached a level where his high school coach had to step in a make a move to quell the animosity from other coaches and players at the thought of my son entering the batter's box. The coach's action was sure and swift..."son, you can't hit until you're a senior". That was his freshman year. Being that he was just an "okay" pitcher, he was allowed to continue to pitch. Well, he did okay pitching, but as promised the coach let him hit his senior year and all the pitchers he faced simply gave in and "LET" him hit pitches. He was very grateful and responded with 400 plus batting avg., all while being commited as a pitcher. I will be forever indebted to all the pitchers he faced for not challenging him that year. As to your son's situation about not being challenged, bring him to Rocky Mount and we'll see if we can find someone who will try to get him out.
