I was not at the Hickory Ridge Sun Valley game but was told of an interesting situation that came up. The varsity game started at 7:00 pm so the lights were on. The HR pitcher told the umpire the lights on the concession stand, located kind of close to the fence behind home plate, were making it hard for him to pick up the ball off the bat. The umpire said he could not do anything about it because it was not in the field of play. Is this correct. Seems to me this is a saftey issue that should be addressed especially with incendents of pitchers being injured by batted balls. Thoughts?

I have also seen umpires request that lights be turned off if they were behind the plate area. Even with no request from the pitcher.

At the Mooresville High School field, 3rd base and left field are impossible. The turf football field is located directly behind the baseball field and is more-less dugout into the ground. There is one light pole that squeaks just over the old middle school and is located directly above the batters head. Boy that makes life hard out there in no mans land when you can't see the ball until it clears the back stop in height.
