But, would she have won 5 state titles and a world championship (whatever that is???) without strong pitchers?

    Yep !!

Because If you hit the ball you will win ballgames...Pitching alone doesn't win ball games, but more runs than your opponent does !! If you don't hit you don't score !! You can't get over the Guru baby !!!

i believe some of you would argue what color the sun is if ya had the chance.

    takes nine to win
    takes nine to lose.

a pitcher is nothing without a good catcher
a catcher is nothing without a good pitcher
a pitcher/catcher is nothing without a good infield
a pitcher/catcher is nothing without a good outfield

a great pitcher doesnt strike everyone out, they're goal is to eliminate dingers over the fence, line drives and boomers to the gap. infield grounders and fly balls are just as important as strikeouts.

    but thats just defense.

a team doesnt win without offense and thats a whole different thing.

a good pitcher knows she's getting the winning and getting the limelight because of the people behind her.

    Finally,
Someone states the truth--Pitchers can pitch all day and have all strikeouts --but without crossing home plate and the other 8 , no win.

my dd lived this in her senior year of hs. seven loses of 1-0 and 11 victorys of 1-0. we had great defense, but little offense.

Kelie Russell of north gaston and my daughter tossed 33 k's in an eleven inning game. final score.....1-0 north gaston. three hits in that game total over eleven innings.

a good pitcher cant do it by herself.....just saying...nine to win

If the pitcher strikes out 21 straight batters and either she or her catcher hits one over the fence it can be done with only two.

Wonder if that has ever happened?

....no, because you can't play a game without the rest of the players on the field.

What player on a team puts in any where near the hours that a pitcher does? Pitchers work all year, taking lessons and throwing three to five times a week and that is in the off season just to improve and maintain there skills. Like was said before they are the ones credited with the wins and the losses. We all know a great kid in the circle can hide a lot of deficiencies in the defense simply because not many hard hit balls happen.
Someone mentioned a true .555 BA I wonder if the oppositions book(s) would agree.
Home runs are subjective also in as much as who they were hit off of. comparing the number of homers across conferences is meaningless. Please don't get me wrong every HR and the girl that hit it should be celebrated, but not bragged about, every girls HR count would be different if they played in a different conf.
