Thanks for the feedback. Got a few interesting PMs as well. Anyone not comfortable commenting in the public forum please keep 'em coming.

What are most teams in South Carolina playing? ASA, WFC, USSSA, NSA, USFA, IFA, other?

Considering you are a 10U team, playing WFC in Myrtle beach will be an unforgettable experience. If you are looking at the WS event in August you will find all the competition you want and maybe more. The facilities, Pepper Geddings and Cal Ripken are fantastic. Especially Cal Ripken, Astroturf outfields and first quality everything else. Lots of trees near fields(shade) which you will appreciate in August. As for things to do outside the ballfield the options are almost unlimited.
Make plans come on down and have a blast.

Ben has some great WFC world series and late fall showcases. Any of his other tournaments are crap in my opinion. You can play a small ASA trny and have better competetion.

We have played his fall trnies the past few years and had a great time doing so and played good teams. I reccomend you make hotel reservations now at either the crown reef or the spring maid resorts. Both hotels are huge, nice and within minutes of the air force base fields. We have stayed at both and enjoyed our stay at both places.

in the fall the rates are great. If I remember correctly neither place was over $45 per night and these are not road side roach motels. the sring maid has its own peir and the crown reef is just a short walk to one. Make sure you eat at Damon's that is located between the 2 places. they have great ribs and shrimp.

Which is an ASA event. However, I don't share Ty's positive opinion about the event due to my experiences in 2008. 2007 was better, but not hugely so. We skipped it in 2009 and won't return this year.

Most upstate SC teams play predominately ASA with some NSA or ISA. Those nearer the midlands and coast are more likely to play WFC, ISA or USSSA, with some NSA and ASA mixed in. I've not seen USFA or IFA advertised in SC.

My experiences with the WFC tournaments in Upstate SC were not positive. The tournaments often did not make and the umpires were questionable. They were good for trophy hunting. My DD guested in one WFC world series in Summerville SC and the umpiring there was no better than in the upstate. I've heard of tournaments where the TD decided to reverse a clearly worded rule in the WFC rulebook.

"make it" as in having enough teams to hold a tournament.
