This is a two part question
    1. How many times can you hand pass you hip before you deliver the pitch or is it how many times can you change directions before you deliver the pitch?
2- Why is so hard to get umps calling in younger age groups to make calls that will benefit the kid before bad habits develop?

I would even be in favor of the ump going to the coach and telling him between the innings -- give him a chance to correct the issue before it is called in the game --

    1- idk

2 - most of the umps that know are either coaching somewhere or umping at a higher/older level.

maybe the thing to do would be to invite umps/ ump wanna bes to coaching clinics.

while i was doing 9-10 year old coach/kid pitch they drafted me to fill in on a 12 year old softball game because my game was a forfeit and that ump didnt show. the ump there said to cll bases same as baseball and not to worry about the pitcher

    Something to consider

I spoke with the coaching staff of a nearby D1 school today and discovered that you can only change directions twice from the time you present the ball -- on the third time you must deliver the pitch

As for the second part of the question -- there was a series of letters sent out earlier this year from the NCAA, Coaches, and Conference Commissioners to the umpires and the sanctioning bodies concerning the inconstancy of calling illegal pitches earlier in the developmental stages. The letters stated that its very hard to tell an incoming freshman that she is doing something that is illegal -- but has never been called for it.

What does that mean for us in travel ball? My guess is that over the next few years we will start to see more pitchers called for illegal pitches -- simply because that is what the is being called in the college ranks -- when you have pitched 8-10 years a certain way its hard to change --even if it its something a small as stepping on the rubber with you hands separated -- but if its wrong then what good was all that hard work.

Neither of my DD pitch but they have plenty other bad habits -- if I'm not willing to pursue correcting them -- then I am limiting how good they can be
