I really don't want to get drug into this.. I had been reading how well they had been hitting good pitching and now they got shut down in a 1-0 game by EW. I was asking/hoping someone could paint the picture in what must have been a good one.

    Congrats on a successful season.

    I know 1 thing:

All those 3A Western teams are sitting back and thinking to themselves---Dang, they've used the word "prowess" about 10 times today! We might have our hands full this year.:scholar:

This is what happens when you get two breaking ball pitchers matched up with an umpire that calls any close curve ball a strike. Both pitchers recognized it and took advantage. Dont have a dog in this fight just enjoy a good ball game, and I wasn't disappointed with this one. Huge crowd and great rivaly atmosphere. only run came off a single and 3 straight hit batters in the bottom of 6th. These two should play rubber match in conference tourney (I'll be there)

Pitcher wheels to pick off at second base and both the shortstop and second baseman dive in the dirt behind the bag as if the throw has gone into centerfield. Centerfielder dives or turns to give chase to the imaginary errant throw. The illusion is sold by the synchronized diving and/or some yelling to "get the ball" adding to the feeling of chaos. Play was executed perfectly and the pitcher (who never threw the ball) tags out the confused runner half way between second and third. Runner in this case was a pinch runner for the catcher.

It was a 3-2 game with the tying run at second, late in an important conference game. Coach picked a great time to use a play that has been practiced, but used sparingly while waiting for the right moment.

Odd thing...the play was described in the local paper that very day, Hopewell having used it successfully in a game during the prior week.

Coach Greeson rarely uses that play. Every coach in the SW4A has seen him use it before, so they are prepared, but with him in a different conference, he can bring it back to success. It's a great play and the players have to "sell" it, but his teams always seem to be able to execute it to perfection.

He has a few more up his sleeve!

And how many times in early season have I seen umps not know what a curve ball was and call it a ball. They don't know what they are looking at becauses some are just there for some money in their pocket. It's best when they call even and both ways for both sides! So at least this guy knew the a ball can move and not just be in a straight level way! Good for both of these guys who can make a pitch move. Heard calls were even on both sides. Smart pitchers or coaches who knew how to read what the ump was seeing. Part of baseball, a little intelligence and quick thinking is a must! That's why baseball is so great!

I've heard NO ONE take anything away from DuBois. He only was taken off the mound, why? You can't take anything away from either pitcher in this game, I just hear Freddie stayed in and played the end like it was the beginning and didn't get frazzled. I heard DuBoise wasn't either, why did he come out? Hollowell was put in a bad position, which, should have been handled. But seeing that he had hit two batters, and gave up a hit to another, why leave him in for the third hit batter. Was the crowd that much to make a college signee, with a season like he has had, (Great) let it get him? Why was he left in for this? How many K's, BB's hits did both pitchers have (Duboise/Frederick) was it such that DuBoise needed to come out? I'm like Diesel, where arethe colorful details?
