    John J. Tuttle

John J. is announcing this week-- was talking to his parents, and my son feels Catawba is a done-deal....he is still talking to Belmont-Abbey and UNC-Pembroke because of prior commitments-- He is a CLASS-ACT, and had an unbelievable year despite being on a losing team;his ERA is ~1.00 even with the 3 ER's to NW Cabarrus(the best hitting team I've seen in years)-has pitched 5 complete games. He works quickly, with great tempo; Fastball with movement in, consistent 86-88 mph, has hit 91, induces lot of groundballs (which has plagued this error-prone team)-great knuckle-curve which he will throw anytime in the count---but most of all, unflappable and feisty, and he seems to get stronger and faster in later innings. He can also be a position player at the next level--a natural, cat-quick 3rd baseman, but has played SS past 3 years out of necessity. Batting ~.300 despite hard-hit balls in last 3 games with no hits-3 HR's, and ~15 RBI's on a team that probably only has 60.
    ADD--John J. pitched a complete-game A.L. BROWN win @ Concord tonight, 6-3 (NO ER's, 7 K's), keeping our playoff hopes alive.

    Wes Dumford

A tall lanky RH, Wes Dumford '10, from Mooresville pitched a gem, again. 5 hits, 1 earned run, 6 strikeouts and 1 walk against the hot bats of Hopewell. He shutout Lake Norman 2 weeks ago. Wes is something like 36 and 5 between school ball and Legion ball for the last 4 years and has won some big games with these Blue Devils behind him. He is a team player and an excellent student and citizen. Someone will get a late steal when they ink Wes.
