NW wins it's first round game of the SPC conference by beating the visiting Vikings 16-8. Taylor West started for the Trojans and pitched 4 innings, leaving with a 12-2 lead. Central rallied in the 5th. scoring 6 runs, then adding another run in the 7th. but it was not enough. NW advances to play winner of Robinson/Hickory Ridge tomorrow at AL Brown. Not sure of game time.

    Charlotte Country Day...4 Charlotte Christian...3

    Christian...010 002 00....3..7..0
    C. Day......000 300 01....4..4..1

    Winning Pitcher: Lee Harrison (7-0) (2.2 IP, 0R, 2H, 2K, 1BB, 0ER)
    Losing Pitcher: Jake Watson

Spectators enjoyed a well-played and entertaining game on Senior Night at Ed Walton Field tonight as Country Day emerged the victors in eight innings. Trey Laney started strong for Christian holding Country Day hitless for three innings. After Laney issued two free passes in the 4th inning, Alex Perullo blasted a laser-like home run plating three runs and putting Country Day ahead 3-1. Ty Linton tied the game in the 6th inning with a 2-run HR and the game was very tight from that point on. Lee Harrison entered the game and pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball, pitching out of a couple of jams with a nifty 2-out pickoff at 2nd base and a clutch strikeout to end the Christian 8th inning with two runners on base. Tate Bloomer made several key plays in the outfield including a nice diving catch, and a strong throw to the plate to nail a Christian runner attempting to score the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th inning. Perullo worked a walk in the final inning and advanced to 3rd on another walk and a wild pitch, setting up Sam Poole's 2-out, 2-strike rocket to left center that scored the winning run for Country Day in walk-off fashion.

    Leading Hitters:

CCDS: Alex Perullo 2-2, HR, 3RBI
    CCDS: Colin Walls 1-2, 2B
CCDS: Sam Poole 1-2, GW RBI
CCS: Ty Linton 1-4, HR, 2RBI
CCS: Greg Williams 1-3, 2B, RBI
    CCS: Tyler Simmons 1-3, 2B
    CCS: Trey Laney 1-3, 2B

    Country Day (17-7, 9-3) Christian (21-8, 9-2)

Titans and Rockets finished tied for 2nd among 4A schools in the MAC. McDowell finishes 12-12 overall.

Both teams play at McDowell Thursday in the MAC 4A semifinal. For both squads its pretty much an elimination game. The winner get the #2 seed in the state playoffs, the loser could very easily be done for the season.

It is my understanding that Aycock pitched 5 different pitchers. They also emptied the bench with a 3-1 lead in the 5th. Substituting everywhere but 3rd, SS, and CF, after which the defense promptly fell apart. I understand giving your pitchers some needed innings. I don't understand the mass substitutions with players who have seen limited action all year. Hate to say it but you have to question the coach on this one.
