I was there. You pretty much have it right (5 pitchers / mass substitutions in the fifth). Aycock was not dominating but seemed to be in control until the substitutions.

    Kannapolis 6 Concord 5

Zach Jones (JR) went 6 strong innings and John J Tuttle got the save as Kannapolis beat Concord for the third time in a week. With Kannapolis ahead 6-3 and the Spiders down to their last 3 outs, Concord leads off the inning by reaching on an error, the next batter deposits a pitch over the LF fence, cutting the lead to 1 run. On comes "King Tut" to retire the next 3 in order and advancing the "Wonders" to the semi-finals. Concord commited some costly errors, however both teams had some "diamond gems" also. The Burris kid for Concord (sorry about the first name) saved a few runs with his play in RF and later at 1B. 2B Justin Kidd for Kannapolis made a spectacular diving catch on a blooper to shallow right and doubled up the runner that was moving on a hit and run, which ended the inning after Concord had scored making it 5-3. Kannapolis plays tomorrow @ 4:30 against Mt. Pleasant followed by NW Cabarrus and J.M. Robinson, who upset Hickory Ridge. Both semi-final games are at Veterans Field in Kannapolis. :N1Greatjob02:

    Sanderson 6 Wake Forest-Rolesville 2

The Spartans picked up their first Cap 7 win of the season behind strong pitching from sophomore Joel Haran who went the distance giving up 2 hits and recording 11 K's with only 1 earned run. Sanderson broke the game open in the 3rd inning scoring 5 runs...all after having 2 outs and nobody on. It has been a very tough year, so it was great to see the smiles on the boys faces last night.

Friday night is Senior Night against Enloe, so that will be an emotional night for the five seniors on this year's team and their parents. Here's to hoping that last night is the start of a little winning streak for them to finish up their high school careers. They have done a nice job as leaders of a young team that has had its struggles. They deserve to finish on a good note.

    WP: Narron
    LP: Manning

HR: Crocker (NJ), Williams (NJ), B. Corbett (NJ), Howell (RR), Stallings (RR)

The ball was jumping in RR. Both teams hit the ball well. Too many errors led to too many unearned runs for us to recover.

RR is now 11-11 overall and 8-3 in the Northern Carolina 2A.

    Charlotte Catholic...2 Charlotte Country Day...1

    Catholic....000 200 0....2...7...0
    CCDS.......000 000 1....1...5...1

    Winning Pitcher: Danny Stewart (7IP, 1R, 1ER, 5H, 3K, 1BB)
    Losing Pitcher: William Frazier (6-3) (7IP, 2R, 0ER, 7H, 3K, 0BB)

In a matchup of two 17-win teams, it came down down to a pitchers duel (both pitching complete games) with some quirky plays making the difference. Catholic starter Danny Stewart cruised through the first six innings allowing only two hits and William Frazier took the tough-luck loss without giving up an earned run. The quirkiness ensued with two outs in the Catholic fourth when Frazier induced what looked to be an inning-ending grounder, but runner interference that went uncalled resulted in the ball skipping off the fielders glove and when the dust settled Catholic enjoyed a 2-0 lead. That score held until the bottom of the 7th inning when Country Day rallied to make it exciting. Justin Ide led off the inning with a sharp single and Alex Perullo continued his hot hitting with a long drive that just missed sailing out of the park in left center. After a walk loads the bases, pinch-hitter Colin Walls drives the second pitch he sees into right center to bring two runners home. The tie score was short-lived however, as the umpire ruled the second runner did not touch the plate and the alert catcher for Catholic made the tag to record the second out. After that reversal, on the next pitch Stewart deftly wheeled to pick off the runner between second and third to end the game.

    Leading Hitters:

    CC: Colin Manning 3-3
CC: Ryan Weise 1-3, 2B, RBI
    CC: Danny Ryan 2-3, 2B
    CCDS: Colin Walls 1-1, RBI
    CCDS: Chad Walton 1-3, 2B
    CCDS: Alex Perullo 1-3, 2B

Charlotte Catholic (18-3) Charlotte Country Day (17-8)
