3A NCISAA Championship Series

Wesleyan Christian Academy took game one of the 3A NCISAA Championship series with a walk off home run by senior Nathan Midkiff in the bottom of the 7th to win the game 4-3. The game was a very close with FCD leading 2-0 after 4. Wesleyan tied the game up in the 5th. Cameron Hendrix of Wesleyan hit a HR in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead 3-2. Adam Griffin of FCD hit a bomb in the top of the 7th to tie the game. With 2 outs, Midkiff turned on a curve ball to hit it over the left field fence in the bottom of the 7th to capture the win.

Earlier in the day, FCD beat Charlotte Christian 6-3 to move into the championship series.

Game 2 starts at 1:00 PM on Saturday at Finch Field in Thomasville. Game 3, if necessary will be at 4:00 PM.

 

Cuthbertson HS over Chase HS - 12 -0

1st year Cuthbertson wins their 1st playoff game in strong fashion by beating a good Chase HS team 12 - 0 in five. Everybody played a role in the victory. Peter Hendel was the winning pitcher going 5 innings and Preston Morisson came in to close out the game. For a team so young they really are doing a great job!

Charlotte Catholic - 4 Kannapolis - 3

Daniel Stewart allowed 4 hits and walked 2 in 5-1/3 innings to pick up the win. He allowed only 1 earned run in a pitching duel with John J Tuttle of Kannapolis. Tuttle went the distance and allowed only 1 ER in the loss, the Wonders commited 4 costly errors and had the bases loaded with one out in the sixth, but couldn't capitalize as CC reliever retired the side. Kannapolis had another chance in the 7th after a leadoff single by Zach Jones, advanced to second on an errant throw by the catcher who was trying to pick him off at first, the Wonders 3,4 and 5 hitters struck out to end the game.
