    Apex beats Riverside 9-0... WOW

How about Hoke County and Broughton in the 2nd Round? Cinderella story in the making?

4 Tri9 teams advance, including the #5 (Lee) and #6 (Apex) seeds from the regular season.

    Tri-9

Lee looked good against Millbrook. They hit the ball extremely well against a quality pitcher. Several players had 3 hits. Defense was solid. Team played with a lot of enthusiasm.

Frye threw well. 7K's, 5 hits and a complete game.

Apex has a lot ability. I guess there will always be discussions over the wildcard selections and who gets in, just like the NCAA basketball tournament, but by winning Apex showed that they can compete.

Athens will be tough. They hit the ball well and have solid pitching.

Holly Springs has solid pitching but not sure if they have the bats even though their record would indicate otherwise.

SSS loses in the first round again as a #1 seed

I was at the game and Lee County came out swinging against Abbott and Millbrook's next pitcher. I would watch them in the playoffs. I can't believe they were only 13-10. Their pitcher pitched a complete game (shorten b/c of the score) and was in control the whole game.

The CAP 7 people I spoke to at the game stated they felt the CAP 7 was down this year but the team to watch is actually Wakefield. Next up is #1 seeded Holly Springs from the Tri-9.

The bigger surprise to me was SSS - for the third year in a row they were seeded as a #1 seed and lost in the first round. What is that all about?

    Agree on Wakefield

I felt the Wakefield was the strongest team in the Cap 7 by season's end. They have solid pitching and swing the bats well from top to bottom. They beat Holly Springs earlier in the season, but I doubt either team threw their best. It should be an interesting game on Tuesday.

Also, I need correct my earlier post....Sanderson actually played 6 teams from the Tri-9 this season. :)

Funny how things go during the spring season. I told folks all season that the two best teams we saw all season were Wakefield and Fuquay Varina (who finished 7th in the Tri9). Maybe we made Fuquay look like all-americans but I thought that they could really play. Wakefield on the other hand looked solid and I couldn't believe they didn't win the Cap-7.

Lee County is interesting too. Heck, we beat them at home and lost on the road 6-5 in 8 innings with Frye throwing all 8 against us and we were the 8th place team in the conference. Lee had to win their last few plus get some help from others just to make the post-season. Frye is one of the top arms around, he will be fun to watch as a senior next year (if that's right?). Coach Spivey always has his guys ready to play WHEN IT MATTERS.

Wakefield @ Holly Springs will be a good one. Wonder if Rodon will be of much worth on Tuesday for HS? Pray for rain? I don't know if HS has the bats to win but I don't know if Wakefield has the arms to win. 6-4 somebody.

    Fuqay was a surprise

I was shocked that Fuquay didn't make the playoffs. When we played them in the Tri-9 Easter Tournament, they were the most impressive team we played. Our games against Middle Creek and Holly Springs were close contests in the late innings, but Fuquay just blew us out early. Just goes to show how strong that conference is this year.

I would think that Manning gets the nod on Tuesday for HS. I just can't imagine they would bring Rodon back that quickly, but who knows this time of year. When it is one and done things can always change.

Manning is very good. Like him a lot. He should get the start without a doubt but I bet it won't take much to get Rodon on the bump.

I might even try to talk the wife into lettin me head out there to check it out.
