    i cheered for the ump who called a strike when the girl started to bunt, left her hands in the strike zone, and got hit.

    i NEVER want to see a kid get hurt (unless its biting their tongue so they cant talk for a few hours - and theirs A LOT of coaches and parents i would love to see do that)

    hitting a batter (shoulders down) is a part of both baseball and softball

    Not only do we have a sign to hit the batter, we have a sign to hit the ump.

    That being said, it is more of a strategy that a revenge tool. If you stand on the plate, there are two outs and the game is not close, we will send messages that have a possibility of carrying over to the next game.

    I know of a girl that tried to hit the opposing coach as he walked behind the plate during warm ups. It's all about the message.

    hmmmm

    as a former umpire i take offense to the hit the ump pitch.

    as a former catcher that missed balls so they would hit the ump i LOVE it.

    back up and you wont get hit.

    as a pitcher;
    i think sometimes batters tend to crowd the plate.
    to take away the outside pitch.

    while i'm pitching, if you cross the white line of the box; your kneecap or elbow is free game.
    bt i cannot say that i have intentionally hit a girl in the head.

    My pitchers have hit their fair share of batters, but a wild ball going twenty miles an hour won't hurt too bad. We had some this year called where the ball rolled on the ground half way to the plate then hit the girl, and was awarded first. I just laugh

    It's fair game if it gets into the strike zone. The umpire decides where the strike zone is. Over the plate should be in anybody's strike zone. There are six inches worth of gray area between the batter's box line and the plate.

    Whos strike zone

    The way some umpires call strikes you can stand in the middle of the plate and your not in the strike zone, and other times once you leave the dugout you are in the strike zone!!!!
