And also Porter Ridge waited till the field was already muddy to put the tarp on to begin with. Then when the rain subsided it took them over an hour to put it away. They had no real inceninve to get the field ready for play again. Reynolds should have never been FORCED to play at their field. They knew rain was in the forecast and didn't plan for it at all. I'm not a Reynolds fan but it was absolutely heartbreaking to see their seniors cry thier eyes out because they didn't even get to finish their last game becasue they were forced to play at a field with no lights. Absolutley heartbreaking.

this is exactly why this game needs to be replayed. imagine if your senior had worked hard for four years and then he been told you can't play the maybe final inning of your career because Porter Ridge doesn't have lights. The reynolds coach was forced by the state to play at five, and the state should force everyone to play the final inning. if not, then the seniors hard work is for nothing. They didn't lose their final game, they just happened to be losing when it got dark.

BTW i've seen this reynolds team put 11 runs up in one inning of TC Roberson, a pretty legitimate state playoff team. Anything could happen in that final inning

Absolutely, positively a playoff game should not end because of darkness!!! These kids practice since February (4 months practice time and games) and they can't find 1 more hour of daylight. ABSURD!! I'm quite sure Reynolds would have time on Saturday to drive back to finish.
I'd appeal, protest, picket, whatever it took to complete the game. I don't have a dog in this fight, but come on NCHSAA!! Sounds like BP is running the playoffs.

exactly. but the complaints need to not only come from reynolds fans they need to come from everybody. if the everyone complains, the state will do something

Hold on so we had no real incentive to get the field ready to play? Was your butt out there in the pouring rain rolling out a 1500 lb tarp on to the field . no. was your butt out there working on the field trying the best we would could to get it dry. no. im sorry we ran out of turface the day before the game. we had parents go out of their way to bags and bags of kitty litter to try and soak up all the water. and dont you dare say that WE waited to long to put the tarp on. its not OUR call its the umpires call. so before you open your mouth and talk crap about us make sure you get your facts straight. im sure you were siting all dry under an umbrella somewhere. while my butt that should have been resting was out there working. you think we like winning that way. no. but it is what it is. we have no control over that.and plus they had 6 full innings to score as many runs as they wanted. while we only had 5. and weve worked way too hard to get a home field advantage and then not recieve it. so what the team has to leave 2 hours earlier. im sure the players didnt mind. thats 2 hours that they dont have to be in class and it doesnt count against them

    It is

pathetic but no one should be surprised by this. First of all Reynolds deserves to play the game. Its not a game until the entire game has been played. And it is also unfair to PR because they deserve the right to win or lose the GAME and not part of the game. The umpires should have suspended the game and had it resumed where it left off today or as soon as field conditions allowed it to be replayed. This kids work too hard and have too much invested in this to have to live with this the rest of their life. The worse thing is now they will never know. The bitter taste in the Reynolds playes mouth and the scrutiny that the PR players will have to listen to is not worth calling a game before the game has ever been playd. The GAME is not over until its over.

As far as the lights it is not a requirement that a school have lights. It is not a requirement that the game be played at a certain time. I dont have a problem with what time I have to play or how far I have to travel to play. I dont have a problem playing on a field with no lights. I dont care if its a cow field. Those are things that you dont concern yourself with as a player and a coach. But I came here to play a 7 inning game and its not over until we have played an entire game.

Suspend the game and then finish it. The players deserve that. Otherwise its total BS and the game was never played. Chapel Hill should not allow any playoff game to end until it has be completed and decided by the players. This is pathetic and a shame not only for Reynolds but for PR as well.

While I agree the ending is plain wrong and their should be some way to ensure it doesn't happen in the playoffs, let's don't take away the performance of the players at Porter Ridge either. These kids have worked long and hard too and go into every game as the underdog.

I read somebody complaining about how long it took to cover and uncover the tarp. But I also read where the Reynolds team stayed in the dugout. Believe me, if I was concerned about time, I would have had everybody and their brother out there working.

The Reynold's fans have every right to be upset, but not at the expense of the competitors. It appears they literally left everything on the field. The problem lies with adults, not the kids playing

EDIT: Oops, I see Coach27 addressed this
