    East series summary

Friday night, Laney hit sophomore Nick Durazo well. They really swung the bats against Lee. Perdue hit a 2R HR for Laney in the first and they never really looked back. Parades hit a HR for Lee.

Game 2, Frye, on 3 days rest, threw his available 5 innings and struck out 10, allowed 2 hits and no runs. Trent Clark pitched the final 2 innings and Carson Wilson hit a 2R HR to seal the victory 4-0 and force game 3.

Clark started the game and went into the 5th. Lee led 1-0 from a Wilson sac fly that scored Parades. With 6 outs to go, Lee had to pull Clark and Durazo came in to close the game out. Durazo did well in the 5th with a strikeout and no runs.

In the bottom of the 6th, Durazo got into trouble and gave 4 runs. Laney would ultimately score 6 in the 6th. Lee threatened in the top of the 7th when they loaded the bases with one out but the game ended on a double play to short.

THere was some good baseball played in Wilmington this weekend. Good luck to Laney.

    It killed me...

... To see my Hoggard Vikings flame out in such a close game in the playoffs.

I remember having to interview Coach Jeep St. Ledger on a signee to UNC and thinking how odd it was to interview the person in charge of ending my prep career.

However, I was very realistic back then being a 5'6" utility infielder with an erratic pop-gun arm and an amazing on-base percentage before it was popularized. Too bad that hit by pitch was not added to on-base percentage since that was another great part of my game as compared to station to station base runnning and covering my shadow in the field in range.

But on another note - big congratulations to Laney on their 4A Eastern Championship!
