There should not be any illegal pitches, unless it is something rediculously illegal. A small kid cannot generate power if not allowed to generate some momentum. Yes, I know if you push off, bla, bla, bla. Pitching is already suffering. They will ruin the game if they start this mess at all levels. I'm not sure why a young kid would really want to pitch now anyway. It's a thankless job that only very few can have success at from 43 feet. Let them do their thing, and make the batters hit, bunt, run, slap, and score. Leave the pitchers alone, especially if it's just every once in awhile that it's called.

I agree with that statement, BUT why wait til the WCWS to start calling it like this.

Not sure I agree with ladiesbballfan. You have to have illegal pitches. Otherwise there would be no hits and no offense.

I am with you CD. An illegal pitch is an illegal pitch, period. Seen way too many HS and TB games where the pitcher was clearly illegal, other team complained, umps give BS excuses, other coaches say is not illegal. Shame on the coaches for letting them get to this level and being the 'ace' of a staff and still being illegal. Are you really trying to say that Candrea and the other coaches have no idea what an illegal pitch is and can't fix it?

What I really liked was between games, one of the sportscasters (sorry forgot her name) said that it is the penalty, not the rule that needs to be changed. Give the batter a ball but don't give the runners a free base.

They said the umps were told in March to start enforcing this rule, but the umps didn't call it at all in the regionals or super regionals that I can remember. Did anyone else see it called before today? I agree if it's the rule call it, but they should have been more consistent all year and not wait until the WCWS.

    First of all

This has been a major emphasis all year.... from the start.... all divisions...
rule states, if it leaves the ground, which then will make it either a crow hop or replant... illegal...

It has been called all year....this is not a new emphasis....
SEC conference, was major emphasis, as was Pac10, and ACC.

Just because it was allowed in some places this season, and not called as tough as it is being call now, it's still illegal...

    shame on the coach...

This was a MAJOR emphasis, highlighted by memo's prior to the season..

Now it is on the biggest stage..... teach em correctly!!

Don't know about you CD, but when we played way back, I never saw a man stay in contact with the ground, the rubber or anything. They came at you leaping and flying, but we still hit it.........at least some of the time.

    Keep it legal

I am so glad to see they are calling it. I am sick of seeing kids get away with throwing illegal. Why do we have rules if they are not going to enforce them??? We have had a number of games in school ball against illegal pitchers. It annoys the #$@# out of me, my kid is legal and I expect yours to be legal too. Teach them to be legal. If you don't like the rules, change them but follow the rules! Otherwize, it's called cheating.
