When pitchers as highly skillled as the National POY can't protect themselves from getting hit in the face how can anyone think lesser skilled and much younger pitchers should be able to?

What is really scary is when you see teams that have powerful hitters facing inexperienced pitchers. I've seen this a few times in HS ball and it makes you worry the whole game. Luckily, I haven't seen any serious injuries in those games. The injuries I have seen were to experienced pitchers.

Admittedly, changing the bats (or the ball) won't eliminate all the danger but it could certainly make it safer; without making the game any less fun!

Are you saying that composite bats = more hits? LOL

I am a pitchers dad and would LOVE to see comp bats go away, but not so DD can strike more batters out *still laughing at the thought*. I would prefer to not see her face bashed in by a come-back liner going too fast to react to.

The statement is not as foolish as you obviously believe. Composite bats can turn easily fieldable grounders into base hits. Pitchers/Teams do not get outs by strikeout alone.

I agree the equipment is getting a little to "hot" and it does put pitchers in more danger. One thing that could be done is to mandate masks for pitchers at all levels. I do not believe anyone could have too much of a problem with that type of mandate...and while we are at it we should probably mandate hitters face masks at all levels too.

I saw right many players in WCWS wearing helmet cages. I saw a couple fouls to the helmet also.

Current bats not as hot as 2005

I think the bats of today are not as hot as the 2004/05 models such as the Easton synergys and stealth. I don't believe they rockettech of today matches to the 2004 model. Some progress has been made to tone it down a bit but could probably be toned down more. How about a different core ball?

I was reading an article recently that said the core isn't as important as the compression.

You're right about the 04 RT; RTs after 04 don't have as much pop. Some of the composites of the past several years, however, do have about as much, or more, pop as the 04 RT. I'm talking about unaltered composites, too.

Composites are easily and inexpensively altered. Whether anyone would alter one I leave to the reader to believe or not.

....hhhhmmmmm, alter a bat, crow hop, step across the pitching lane, step out of the box slapping, leave a base early.......no way any of these gigs are done on purpose.

    04 RT

On my DD team we have two 04 RT and yes they are still hot in 2010. But 12u's are using them. Only 3 girls use them and they are the typical 12u about 5'4' 85-90 lbs. so watching them hit, I don't see a lot of danger in these 3. My DD uses a CF4 and she is 5'4" and about 85lbs not a lot of danger there either, trust me. And I agree ball core could be changed.

....I've got the black and red rocket tech that has the 200 stamp on it, and I know its not legal, plus its got some lateral breaks in it, and I'm looking and the silver and red rocket tech with the homeplate ASA 2004 stamp on it. Is this the bat that you are talking about Stanbuddy?

Its a 32, and it says on the barrell, minus 9 swing weight.

Fishbuddy, out of the BigRock Marlin Tourney.
