Played an awesome game against Region 3. Reminiscent of the way her HS teammate, Caitlin Sandy, played 3rd a couple years ago in the State Games. Must be something in the water.

    Congratulations!

Jessica Crist was a vacuum cleaner at 3rd base against District 3. She also has a strong accurate arm.

Come on, now; why is there no comments about the East-West games?

Someone must have been there! Share your thoughts, facts!

....Great kid is right! She probably had no idea what or who she bumped into, but her first response was to say "excuse me". Thats a class act by a kid who was taught by good parents bro! Props ANNA!

I was there but I had to head to the Outer Banks as soon as it was over for the District 1 Babe Ruth Softball Tournament. My daughter played with the East team and had a great time.

It was miserably hot but you wouldn't know it by the way both teams played. I heard a lot about the West pitching going in and it was very good but the East pitching was superior on this day. Kelsey Sanfilippo and Ashley Bone kept the West batters offstride each game. There was the occasional "small ball" hit but there were not that many West baserunners.

The West wanted to run the bases and had one steal early when the East catcher, Kala Hinton, bobbled the ball but after that they didn't have much success. Hinton threw out three trying to steal in quick succession and the West didn't run much after that. For those of you that haven't seen Hinton, she is the real deal. (and no, Hinton is not my daughter :) ) Hinton and Kristen Cudequest split time behind the plate during the 3 games and did a super, super, job. Have any of you ever caught with a 110 degree heat index?

The defense of both teams was outstanding especially considering the heat. I would have thought there would have been many more wild throws from slippery hands but there were only a couple in the three games. The defense was even more impressive if you consider that several of these girls were playing positions that they very rarely play.

I kind of expected more offense from the teams but the pitching and the heat seemed to take care of that.

I hate to single out just those 4 players because it was a total team effort from the East squad. Patrick Williams and staff should be commended for the job they did last week.

Thanks for the report. I would have loved being there but we had to get back.

Keep us up on the Babe Ruth happenings. My DD played Babe Ruth back in the day. That's a great organization that benefits a lot of kids. And there are a lot of kids that aren't aware Babe Ruth softball.

Things you mentioned about Kala Hinton I witnessed last year during undergrad games. She is definitely one of the best I've seen! And she has the right attitude to go with it. Great kid!!

When I saw the East roster http://www.ncsports.org/pdfs/SOFTBALL_-_High_Schoolresults.pdf I thought this year the East has a great chance of winning it. That's a helluva roster from the first name thru the last name. WOW!!

    CONGRATULATIONS EAST!!!
