One of six new rules changes by the National Federation of State High School Associations Baseball Rules Committee forbids the use of composite bats until they can meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard. The changes, which were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors, will take effect with the 2010-11 school year.

What are the "name brands" of the "outlawed" bats? I'd hate to see someone spend close to $500 on a bat they can't use. Good post, thanks for the info.

My son had his Demarini "tossed" by the umpire last year at ECU. He popped up his 1st at bat...got a base hit his second at bat and was called out and the bat tossed. Oh well... His dumb dad (me) should have known better but I failed to check the list we have when I bought the stupid thing earlier in the day. The Demarini Voodoo Black is "legal". I bought the CF4 - "ILLEGAL". Fortunately, the "warranty" covers the bat so now he has 2 Voodoo Black and a composite WOOD BAT - go figure

Lists of legal and illegal bats, its a very long list. I bet the "big" bat companies will be "lobbying" big time to have this rule reversed. It's makes me feel pretty good to see these guys "squirm" a little. They have been "sticking" it to us for years, by overpricing their bats. I just wonder how much they spend on research for safety of their bats? :beatdeadhorse5:

Anyone remember the the 2003 Green Gen1 bat by TPX? My son was playing for "The Kannaplis Hulks" and I was an asst. coach. A couple of kids purchased these bats, because they matched our colors. My son of course had to use one of those, even though he had an Easton CXN, (you know kids!). At a tournament in Myrtle Beach, two things happened that I will never forget. It was October 25, 2003 and I was coaching 1B and my son was up for the second time with runners on 2nd and 3rd. He gets a inside fastball and turns on it... it clears the 220' fence in RF, giving him his 1st HR he ever hit. Well now every kid on the team is going to the plate with this bat... then my son comes up for his last AB, once again inside fastball and with a mighty swing... I hear a really weird sound from the bat and I see 2 objects come off the bat, one was the ball, which was a slow roller past the pitcher, who was going to his right to field what ended up being the "end cap" of the bat. Well my son couldn't care less he just went 4 for 4 and just drove in his sixth run. The umpire picks up the bat and it's split from the end to the handle and laid open like a "gutted" fish. Thats when we learned of the problems with this model bat, the umpire said that was the second time he had saw it happen with this model. We decided not to use the the other one we had, due to safety concerns. Well, while my son is celebrating a tournament championship and winning tournament MVP, I'm of course on the side consoling this kid who is standing looking at his early Christmas present from his PawPaw. (Of course his parents refuse my offer to replace it.) Once we returned home, we examined the 2 bats with a magnifying glass and found lots of small hair line cracks on the bat. After the head coach did some research online, he found this was an ongoing problem and that Louisville Slugger was aware of the problem. So, he contacts TPX to report the problem and get the kid a new bat, not a Gen 1!!! The company rep. said they were unaware of any problems with the bat and asked for the bat be returned along with a receipt. Well of course Grandpa paid cash and didn't keep the receipt, now the company has a "loop hole" and refuses to replace it. Luckily, the owner of a local sporting goods store "back dated" a receipt and got the kid a new bat within days.
    :blah: OK, "rant" over!!!

Just a question maybe one of you guy might be able to answer for me. I broke the news to some of the area high school players last week about this new rule and they are coming back saying the company tells them its not their responsiblity. Is there anywhere they can go to get a refund on their composite bats? The only company that has said this thus far is Nike.

LOL.. I don't see how you can hold the bat mfgr responsible and want a refund because of a rule change. You bought it...its yours...lol Good luck with that one...

So many leagues and such out there where the bats will still be viable, certainly not the mfgr's place to warrant a refund or exchange because HS have stop using them. Let us know how that goes...

I must defend Demarini. When I contacted them, they simply said the one-year warranty applied. I returned the bat and received the legal VOODOO and a composite wood bat so as to equal the value of the "illegal" bat.

What is the contact number and procedure for getting in touch with Nike. Several kids I know need to replace Comps. they cannot use anymore. All the bats are still in the 1 yr return window. Thanks
