    Matt actually started on the 15 Dirtbags. Was asked to play up on the 16's. Parents had already scheduled vacations and days off around the 15 Dirtbags schedule. Has tried to do both as much as he could.

    All the North Carolina teams lost out in the round of 32, including the DB's. However several teams from North Carolina advanced to the championship pool including the High Point University Panthers.

    This one. There's only one High Point University Panthers. They have played showcase all summer.

    The High Point University Panthers Baseball Club also advanced.

    The team defeated Orlando Bolts 8-1, lost a close one 6-5 to the Diamond Devils, and defeated Chain Black from savannah 2-1.

    In the opening round in the championship bracket they defeated On Deck Black 10-0 in 5 innings. They lost out 6-2 in the round of 32 to the #1 seed NVTBL after leading 2-0 after 4 and 2-1 after 5. Pretty good game.

    The team is coached by HPU coach Daniel Latham (former Tulane player) and Jamie Serber (former HPU player and now intern coach). Players on the team are:

    Mitch Carstens, Ragsdale '012
    Trey Dobson, Page '012
    Trey Gibson, North Iredell '013
    John Martin, Greensboro Day '012
    Jack O'Neal, North Davidson '013
    Nick Schofield, Page '013
    Duncan Sparks, Ragsdale '013
    Jeremy Walker, Calvary Baptist '013
    Seth White, North Iredell '013
    Weston Wilson, Wesleyan Christian '013

    The team trains at HPU and has been together for several years. They have had a fun and successful summer. Their skills continue to improve while losing only 6 games all summer on the showcase circuit, The team went 3-2 at East Cobb advancing to the round of 32, and won all 4 game the previous week in the On Deck wood bat showcase at Wingate. At East Cobb the coach batted 11, as he has all year (one kid is a pitcher only) and did not pick up any extra players.

    You just need to see Orth play. A five tool kid for sure. He hit a homerun yesterday a very very long way with a wood bat.
    Dirtbag 15's lost 4-3 yesterday. Starting pitcher, regular shortstop and cleanup hitter, Snow injured his shoulder in the first inning.
    Need to keep an eye on this team. They were the number one seed in an 18-u tournament this year as well.

    We see him in conference play. He is a very good player for his age. Projects to be a very good player. Right now he is head and shoulders above any 15 year old I know.

    No arguement players like Ortt and Snow are great players. But, with Showcase Ball, the teams are segregated by graduating year.

    Dirtbags won 13-2 last night against the cubs. Matt Vernon led the offense with a 4-4 day.
