    WAS WRONG(#3 WAS TURNED IN)PROTEST WAS DENIED..HOME RUN COUNTS

    OK, somone step up with actual rule on this one - from OBR I guess.
    They stopped and discussed for 15 minutes.

    In HS, jersey number and players is no more than a courtesy - even leaving players off the lineup card is "OK". Crazy, but not penalized.

    How about here. Did they get it correct?

    MLB Rule 6.01

    6.01
    (a) Each player of the offensive team shall bat in the order that his name appears in his team’s batting order.
    (b) The first batter in each inning after the first inning shall be the player whose name follows that of the last player who legally completed his time at bat in the preceding inning.

    The batting order is determined by the last name. The number is basically a courtesy.

    Agreed, number not the issue.

    However, he should've been ineligible if his NAME had been left off scorecard that was turned in.

    What happened was coach wrote his jersey number #16 in the spot for position and the position (third base, #3) in the spot for jersey number. Name was correct and in the proper place on line-up card.

    I heard that the coach from the team that this happened to turned in his line upu the next day with all the team members having the same number! If so this is fantastic!

    It's a fact. Every player on the lineup card was #18 which is Coach Pugh's number!!

    The only part I couldn't figure out about the numbers being a courtesy is if a coach didn't put down the numbers then how would you know if someone batted out of turn?

    Boxman, batting out of turn (most of the time) falls into the category of honest mistake. Numbers fall off, some kids have different numbers on away uniforms,,, bottomline numbers are just for the fans so us dummys can keep them apart.
