I've been told from a strong source that Brett Austin '11 Of/Catcher, Providence HS, has been chosen as the NCBCA 4A State Player of the Year.

I don't know why the All State selections and the POY's take so long to be reported, but there ya go. Congrats Brett!!!

Best player by far in the best conference in the state. No brainer, well deserved. Congratulations to Brett. It will be tough to repeat as NOBODY with a brain will pitch to him next year!!

I love Brett Austin, but I'm biased. Gatorade Player of the Year in NC is Matt Roberts.....pretty dadgum good player, too. And Chase McDonald of Rose HS faced what Brett will face this coming year. Chase could go a week without seeing a strike. Yet he was disciplined to accept the walks. If they ever kept records of IW's, Chase would be one of the all time leaders. And the rare times he did see a strike, he rarely missed it.

I think Brett is a rare athlete, but so are the other two I mentioned.
