DO YOU THINK IT WILL HELP THE CHANCES OF THE LITTLE GUY WHO PLAYS GREAT DEFENCE, BUT DOES NOT HIT THE BAT AS WELL TO HAVE BETTER CHANCE OF BEING RECRUITED

You're right. I'm guessing base stealing skills will become more important as well. You'll see less scoring, less extra base hits, and more teams playing small-ball. Bunting runners over into scoring position more often. Games won't last as long. Less hot dogs will be sold. Infielders will have to play better defense. It'll be like we're all taking a time-machine back to the sixties to watch a ball game.:kid:

I'll wait before I can give honest feedback, but on the surface, I like it. I believe the players are bigger, stronger and faster than players during the wood bat days. The big boppers will continue to bop, but the one's that are gap to gap hitters will no longer go yard....and I like that. True baseball....it's hard to get upset about that.

...and I agree, speed becomes a more important tool.

Most of these guys will figure out how to swing it and those who can hit well (all fields as second nature), will be the premium. Speed will be handy to have, but hasn't speed always been a premium, as well as glovework?

You will need to be a hitter to be productive with what is being issued under the new rules. A month in to the season, it'll still just be baseball!

You're right Diesel, a good hitter will figure out the new bats and be able to hit. Speed has always be at a premium, but because more small ball may have to be played to score runs, I think speed will be even more important. A kid who can't hit well probably won't see the field anyway.

I'm ready, end of Feb 2011 can't get here soon enough. I watched practice last Friday, William looked good in the field; he made some nice plays. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see him bat. Looking forward to watching a few more games together! Maybe I'll see you at Black & Gold weekend????

interesting reading these comments from Ole Miss and their coach. I have a good friend who is an assistant at Western Kentucky and they have some of the new bats and are seeing no difference in what their guys are doing in bp - I didn't ask who their contract is with but in talking with him last week he said they hadn't seen any difference with their hitters.

My son told me this weekend that they've been hitting with the new bats(Demarini) for a week or so and he feels they are not as good as what he used last year, but they do perform better than wood.
