    COST TO PLAY

Hello catcher5dad, can you say what the cost to be on the team will be assuming one makes the 2013 squad?
It seems like, so far, no one is willing to quote cost to play for their showcase team. Why is that?

    Thanks,

I suspect because it can be flexible pricing. You also have to consider some organizations include hitting-pitching facilities, year long training and development and instructions by professional players.

And a few organizations are free!!!!!! They don't have to have tryouts...they invite.

The other variable about pricing that can be confusing is this. One organization charges $800 while another charges $3,000. At first glance, the best deal would be the $800. But that may be throw-away money because you get nothing for it. While the $3,000 organization developed a coordinated training and development program for your son with top notch instructors, while attending high profile tournaments with a successful team.

There are some excellent organizations that are not expensive, but I use the term expensive, figuratively. It's what you get out of the experience that determines its worth.

Also, one should evaluate attainable goals before entering showcase. For some, the opportunity to play against some of the best competition across our state is enough for them. If that's the case, then find the least expensive that offers good, competitive tournaments. If you are looking for development and exposure, then the costs rise exponentially.

Braves did a great job explaining why, in my opinion, organizations do not put costs out in the open. One must make sure they are comparing apples to apples when looking at different organizations and what you get for the money. The best way to get that info is to communicate directly with someone from that organization. To that end, I would suggest sending Coach Grissom an email to get that info for the Monsters.

infield fly has asked this question before and gotten similar responses.....your child(not you) needs to get out there and look around while at the same time keeping you well informed.....if he is not willing to do this on his own......that is a hurdle that will most likely keep him from playing at the next level.....all coaches are looking for players that can stand on their own........

I'm really not trying to promote a specific team, but in my opinion the Lake Monsters have done an excellent job with their program.

Also, I believe Jere Morton is a coach for their 2014 team. I think he has posted a tryout date.

No 2014 for the (Old) Lake Monsters this Summer but may have one in the fall. Coach Grissom is just taking this organization over and he has done a tremendous job with the 2013 kids. 2014 coach decided against coaching when team changed hands.
